Maguire’s Days At Old Trafford Numbered

Harry Maguire’s future at Manchester United appears uncertain, with reports indicating that his time at Old Trafford may be coming to an end. The England defender has been a subject of transfer speculation for over two years. Despite being stripped of the club captaincy last summer, Maguire remained a significant squad member until an injury at the end of the season sidelined him, causing him to miss the FA Cup final.

Maguire’s injury also meant he was absent from the European Championship, further complicating his situation. With United intent on strengthening their defence, including ongoing talks with Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt, Maguire’s role at the club is likely to diminish. United’s failed bid for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite adds to the uncertainty surrounding Maguire’s future.

According to The Mirror, Erik ten Hag has already discussed plans with De Ligt, aiming to pair him with Lisandro Martinez in central defence. Additionally, United’s new sporting director, Dan Ashworth, is reportedly prepared to facilitate Maguire’s departure. Last year, Maguire turned down an opportunity to join West Ham, a decision that now seems to have added to his predicament.

Even former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has recently issued an apology to Harry Maguire for his previous harsh criticism of the England international. Keane’s remarks had been notably severe, but he has since acknowledged that his comments may have been too extreme and offered an apology to Maguire.

Van de Beek Approaching Girona Move

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek is on the verge of completing a move to La Liga club Girona. Van de Beek, who joined United in a £35 million deal in September 2020, will now join Girona, a member of the City Group.

The Dutchman struggled to make an impact during his four years at Old Trafford, featuring in 62 matches with underwhelming loan spells at Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt. During his tenure at United, Van de Beek scored two goals and provided as many assists.

BBC Sport reports that Girona will pay a modest initial fee, with potential add-ons that could total £16.9 million if certain conditions are met. United will also benefit from a substantial sell-on clause included in the deal. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirms that an agreement is in place between United and Girona, but personal terms with the player still need to be finalised.

Girona, who finished third in La Liga last season behind Barcelona and Real Madrid, will be competing in the Champions League next season, presenting Van de Beek with an exciting new opportunity.
