How Much Would Another Onana Cost?

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Everton’s midfield powerhouse Amadou Onana, who could depart Goodison Park in 2024. According to journalist Santi Aouna of Footmercato, United’s interest in Onana is shared by Barcelona, who have already initiated talks with the player’s representatives. Onana joined Everton from Lille in 2022 and played a crucial role in ensuring the Toffees’ Premier League survival last season with his commanding presence in the centre of the pitch. His performances have made him an essential part of Sean Dyche’s plans, as Everton seek to stabilise their position following a 10-point deduction.

Despite a recent calf injury that sidelined him for several matches, Onana made a strong return by scoring a vital goal in Everton’s win over Burnley. His form has continued to attract interest from top European clubs, though Everton would be reluctant to let their 22-year-old star leave. However, Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations may force the Merseyside club to cash in on one of their most valuable assets. Reports suggest that should Everton decide to sell, they would demand a fee in the region of €55 million (£47m) for the Belgian international.

United Eye Three Bundesliga Players

As Manchester United gear up for the second half of the 2023/2024 campaign, manager Erik ten Hag is exploring ways to strengthen his squad ahead of the winter transfer window. After a challenging season plagued by injuries and early exits from both European and domestic cup competitions, the focus now shifts to securing a top-four Premier League finish and making a strong FA Cup run.

With fewer fixtures in the new year, United could benefit from a more streamlined schedule. However, the competition for Champions League spots remains fierce, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United all fighting for a place in the top four. As a result, reinforcements may be necessary for Ten Hag to guide his team to success. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shed light on United’s transfer plans, indicating that the January window is unlikely to see any major signings. Instead, United have drawn up a shortlist of potential targets, particularly focusing on two key areas: centre-back and striker.

Romano stated in his latest Kick stream that United are holding regular meetings with agents to assess options. While a significant signing at centre-back may be reserved for the summer due to FFP restrictions, United are looking for affordable options to bolster the squad in January. The Red Devils have reportedly engaged in talks with the agents of several Bundesliga players, including Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy and Borussia Dortmund’s Donyell Malen, both of whom are considered viable striker options. Additionally, Timo Werner has emerged as another potential target, with the club exploring multiple possibilities in their search for attacking reinforcements.
