Manchester United’s boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an update regarding the health of two players ahead of Thursday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur in Shanghai, China.
During his pre-match press conference, the Norwegian tactician confirmed Sweden centre-back Victor Lindelof will be available for this game. However, he also confirmed Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku will once again miss the contest. Belgium’s all-time leading scorer is yet to play in the Pre Season Tour due to a nagging injury.
Solskjaer’s words + reaction
He got injured in training, so he had to stay here,”
the boss confirmed during the press conference. “If it was worse, we would have sent him home, but he’s been working with the physios in the gym and stuff, so no [I do not regret bringing him here].
Lukaku’s absence will probably mean more minutes for up-and-coming star Mason Greenwood. The 17-year-old has been a pleasant surprise for Manchester United during the Pre Season Tour thanks to two goals in three appearances. In fact, the U18 star scored the game-winning goal against Inter Milan the last time out. Solskjaer seems to trust him, and Greenwood is answering the call doing what he does best. And that’s terrorizing opposing defences.
Lindelof’s situation was easier since the Swedish defender left the game against Inter Milan with a knock. But that injury was never serious in the first place. Losing Lindelof for an extended period of time would be a nightmare for The Red Devils, however. The first game of the 2019-20 season is two weeks away, and Lindelof is Solskjaer’s top alternative at the back.
When is the match against the Spurs?
Manchester United will face Tottenham at Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai this Thursday. The Red Devils have won their first three Pre Season Tour matches, notching victories against Perth Glory, Leeds United and Inter Milan.
