Manchester United attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan will miss the midweek clash against struggling Crystal Palace after picking up an ankle injury in the 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford. The Armenian, who scored the only goal of the game and gave a man of the match performance, was brought down towards the end of the second half with a heavy Danny Rose challenge. United’s number 22 is in scintillating form at the moment and the United faithful now starting to see the very best of the former Borussia Dortmund man as we approach the busy Christmas season.
United manager Jose Mourinho, who was pleased that his side finally got the win they deserved following some strong performances in recent weeks, feared the worst – however after a thorough examination, the Portuguese was relieved to find out that the knock wasn’t as bad as first anticipated.
“It looks like the next match (against Crystal Palace) is a ‘no’, but it looks like it is nothing that is really dangerous or that needs surgery. So hopefully we will probably have Micki on Boxing Day (against Sunderland at Old Trafford).”
United travel to Palace on Wednesday night, before another away trip, this time at The Hawthorns to face WBA on Saturday night. Mkhitaryan is most likely to miss the next two games, which will give the likes of Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard a chance to feature in what will a very busy festive season.
