Man United Set Sights On Left-Back Reinforcement
Manchester United are continuing to assess options at left-back, with Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall and Fulham’s Antonee Robinson emerging as the two leading candidates as Michael Carrick prepares for a season that will bring Champions League football and a significantly heavier schedule. According to Sky Sports News, United have been monitoring both defenders as INEOS looks to address one of the clearest gaps in the squad. Tyrell Malacia has left the club this summer, while Patrick Dorgu is expected to spend more time in an attacking role rather than provide regular cover at full-back. That leaves Luke Shaw as United’s only established senior option on the left, although Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can provide emergency cover. Given Shaw’s injury history and his contract expiring next summer, relying on that arrangement throughout the season would carry considerable risk.
Hall has been on United’s radar for several months and remains the preferred option of the two. Newcastle paid Chelsea £28 million for the England international two years ago and are understood to regard him as an important part of their squad, meaning United would likely have to make a substantial offer to prise him away. Robinson represents a more experienced alternative. The Fulham defender has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable attacking full-backs and, according to Sky Sports analysis, produced stronger numbers than Hall at both ends of the pitch per 90 minutes last season. His profile could therefore suit Carrick particularly well if Matheus Cunha continues to operate as an inside forward from the left. Hall, however, arguably fits the broader INEOS recruitment strategy more naturally, given his age, homegrown status and potential for further development. Whether Newcastle’s resistance can be overcome will determine if United are able to turn that preference into a transfer.
Juventus Considering Swap For Zirkzee
Juventus are reportedly exploring a player-plus-cash deal involving Joshua Zirkzee and winger Francisco Conceição as they look for a way to bring the Manchester United striker to Turin without committing to his full valuation in cash. Sport Mediaset, via The Peoples Person, reports that Juventus could make Conceição available as part of an arrangement that would see United receive around £25 million alongside the Portuguese winger. Juventus reportedly value Conceição at €50–60 million but could lower that valuation if Zirkzee is included in the deal, with Jorge Mendes said to be involved in discussions. The proposal would attempt to bridge the financial gap that has stalled negotiations since January. United value Zirkzee at around €35–40 million and want any departure to result in a permanent transfer, while Juventus have limited room for a straightforward purchase after committing significant funds elsewhere.
New Juventus sporting director Ricky Massara is understood to be particularly keen on Zirkzee, having previously attempted to take him to Roma. The Dutchman is also believed to favour a return to Serie A after struggling to establish himself at Old Trafford. Zirkzee made only 24 Premier League appearances last season, accumulating 609 minutes as Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko pushed him further down Carrick’s attacking hierarchy. A move would therefore give him the regular football he is seeking. Conceição, meanwhile, would offer United another attacking option, although his natural position on the right means the move would not directly address the lack of a specialist left-winger.
