Fernandes Edges Closer to Manchester United Stay
Bruno Fernandes appears increasingly likely to continue at Manchester United, with his future now hinging on a single decisive factor. The Portuguese midfielder has been the subject of an aggressive pursuit by Al-Hilal, who are keen to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup, where they will represent Saudi Arabia on home soil. Representatives from the Saudi Pro League club have held extensive talks with Fernandes’ agent, who spent several days in the Middle East negotiating terms. Despite the enormous financial package proposed, it now seems the final decision rests with the 30-year-old and Manchester United.
While initial reports suggested Fernandes might be tempted by the offer, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported that the player’s family remains unconvinced about relocating to Saudi Arabia. This hesitation could ultimately lead to the midfielder staying at Old Trafford beyond the summer. Al-Hilal, meanwhile, have made headway with several other targets, including Inter manager Simone Inzaghi, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, and AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez. They remain hopeful of landing Fernandes but are prepared to look elsewhere if a decision is not reached promptly.
The United captain delivered an outstanding 2024–25 campaign, contributing 19 goals and 19 assists in all competitions. While most fans would welcome his continued leadership, some observers believe this could be the optimal time to cash in, considering the need for a squad rebuild and the club’s financial constraints.
Mbeumo Agreement Brings United Closer to Major Transfer
Manchester United have reportedly moved a step closer to securing the services of Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo. The 25-year-old enjoyed an exceptional season in the Premier League, scoring 20 goals and supplying 8 assists across 38 matches. After six years at Brentford, Mbeumo is understood to be ready for a new challenge, and has prioritised a move to Old Trafford despite interest from Arsenal and Newcastle, both of whom can offer Champions League football. His decision echoes that of Matheus Cunha, who also opted to join United despite the club missing out on European qualification.
United are determined to act swiftly to avoid being overtaken by rivals. According to Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, the club have already reached a verbal agreement with Mbeumo and his representatives on personal terms, and intend to open formal negotiations with Brentford shortly.
Plettenberg reported that United are optimistic about completing the deal and described Mbeumo as the club’s second marquee signing after Cunha. He stated that the player has already approved the move and that talks with Brentford are expected to begin soon. Mbeumo’s addition would further strengthen an already evolving attacking department. His arrival could create an interesting dynamic alongside Amad Diallo, as both are left-footed wingers who favour operating from the right. One of them may be utilised in a wingback role, a position that Diallo has previously occupied, even if it is not his preferred role.
