How Can Man United Resolve Their Issues In Attack

Despite investing over £100 million in the forward department over the past two summers, it appears Manchester United will need to dip into the market for a new centre-forward once again at the end of the season. The club may have to make a tough decision regarding Rasmus Hojlund, who was signed for £64 million but has struggled to impress. The Danish striker has managed just two goals in 19 Premier League appearances this term, with his last contribution coming back in early December. His lack of clinical finishing has reportedly left the club’s hierarchy doubting his long-term potential.

According to reports from Italy, Hojlund could be heading back to Serie A, with Juventus considering him as a replacement for Dusan Vlahovic, who is attracting interest from Arsenal. Such a move could see United cut their losses and refocus their search for a proven goalscorer. One potential target is Victor Osimhen, a long-standing United interest. The Nigerian forward, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has scored 17 goals this season, adding to an impressive career tally of 131 goals in 246 appearances. His prolific record has established him as one of the top No.9s in global football.

TBR Football reports that Napoli, who hold Osimhen’s contract until June 2026, may be open to a swap deal. The Serie A side have been looking to offload Osimhen since his well-publicised fallout with manager Antonio Conte last summer. With Conte showing little interest in reconciliation, this summer could be the perfect opportunity for United to step in. The Red Devils are reportedly prepared to offer Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho—who was the subject of a £40 million bid from Napoli in January—in exchange for Osimhen. Such a deal could finally resolve United’s persistent goalscoring issues, providing Ruben Amorim with the firepower his side desperately needs.

Only Sancho Guaranteed To Leave

Manchester United currently have six players out on loan, but only one seems destined for a permanent exit this summer. Antony, Dan Gore, Ethan Wheatley, Marcus Rashford, Tyrell Malacia, and Jadon Sancho are all gaining experience away from Old Trafford, yet Sancho is the only player certain to move on. The 23-year-old winger is set to join Chelsea permanently once his loan expires in June. His contract includes an obligation to buy if Chelsea finish in the Premier League’s top 14, which would trigger a transfer fee of £20-25 million. This would mark a significant financial hit for United, who paid Borussia Dortmund £73 million for Sancho’s signature just four years ago.

Sancho’s form at Chelsea has been underwhelming, recording two goals and four assists in 18 league appearances, along with two assists in the Conference League. His performances have tailed off, failing to contribute in 10 of his last 11 matches across all competitions. He further alienated United supporters with a recent social media post, seemingly criticising the club by praising Marcus Rashford’s newfound ‘freedom’ since joining Aston Villa in the winter window. Sancho’s comments may have cemented his departure, with the forward likely to be the first of several exits as United overhaul their squad ahead of next season.
