The new year is here and let’s hope a new Manchester United will be too. Now we are in 2025 as the Red Devils have had one of the worst months in in the last three decades in December.
After losing six out of eight matches in all competitions last month, a new year brings some much needed hope, however unjustified, that things will get at least a little bit better in 2025. Man United are about to play seven matches in three different competitions and here is all that you need to know ahead of them.
Liverpool At Anfield To Kick Things Off
First match in 2025 is probably the toughest one possible. Manchester United will travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday, 5 January. Arne Slot’s side are the best team in the league this season without the shadow of a doubt, earning 45 points from 18 matches, six more than second-placed Arsenal, who have played 19 games. Liverpool won recently 5-0 against West Ham, 6-3 against Tottenham and have prior to that had consecutive 2-0 wins against Real Madrid and Manchester City with such ease that many already predict them to win the title at the end of the season. And to make things worse, many Man United fans still have a fresh memory of that 7-0 loss in 2023.
Arsenal At Emirates In The FA Cup
If that was not tough enough, Man United will couple that trip to another one – to London, where they will face Arsenal in the FA Cup third round match. The Devils crashed out of the League Cup at the quarterfinal stage at the hands of Tottenham and now they will need to show big improvements if they do not want another domestic cup exit. The draw was not kind to the trophy holders, but the match on 12 January is the one where United will need to show if there is any bite in this team, to fight back and maybe even knock out Mikel Arteta’s side when nobody expects it.
Three Home Matches In A Row
After that, the matches will start coming faster and faster. Man United will have three consecutive matches at Old Trafford. First, on 16 January, United will host Southampton, before a Sunday afternoon match against Brighton on 19 January. These consecutive Premier League matches will be important opportunities for points to finally be won, before Rangers come to town on Thursday, 23 January. This match will be United’s seventh in the Europa League and Rangers could come in a good mood, considering they did not lose any of their last four matches in the competition.
Trips To London And Bucharest To End January
To end the month, Man United will have to play two matches away from home. On 26 January, Man United will play a night match at Craven Cottage against Fulham, who are doing some great things this season. Marco Silva’s side ended 2024 eighth place, and are without a loss since 23 November. And finally, on 30 January, Man United will play their last Europa League match of the league phase, against FCSB in Bucharest. It is then that we will find out whether the Devils managed to finish in the top eight and thus skip one knockout round in February.
