UEFA Confirm Rashford Suspension
UEFA has confirmed that Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford will serve a one-match suspension following his red card in the Champions League clash against Copenhagen. Rashford was sent off after a reckless challenge on Elias Jelert, where his studs caught the Copenhagen player’s ankle. The decision came after a lengthy VAR review, resulting in Rashford’s early exit from the game. There were initial concerns among supporters that the England international could face a three-match ban for the incident. However, it has now been confirmed that Rashford will only miss United’s crucial away fixture against Galatasaray next Wednesday. He will return in time for their final group-stage match against Bayern Munich.
United currently sit at the bottom of Group A with three points, having suffered three defeats and securing just one win. Their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages are slim, but much will depend on top scorer Rasmus Højlund, who is working to regain full fitness ahead of the must-win matches.
Mount Sidelined With Another Injury
Manchester United’s Mason Mount has been dealt another injury blow, as confirmed by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano. This marks the midfielder’s second injury setback since joining the Red Devils in a £55 million summer move from Chelsea. Mount’s previous injury came in late August, just after making his debut for the club, when he suffered a hamstring issue that kept him out of action for five matches. He returned at the end of September but now faces another spell on the sidelines. The club has yet to confirm how long the 24-year-old will be unavailable, but with a busy festive fixture schedule ahead, his absence will be keenly felt.
Mount’s time at United has not yet hit the heights that many fans expected, but his presence will still be missed as Erik ten Hag deals with a string of injuries this season. United’s next challenge sees them travel to Goodison Park to face Everton, followed by a crucial Champions League encounter with Galatasaray.
Saudi Interest in Eriksen
Christian Eriksen is reportedly the latest Manchester United player to attract interest from the Saudi Pro League, with journalist Ekrem Konur suggesting that Saudi clubs are targeting the Danish midfielder for a potential move. Eriksen joined United in 2022 on a free transfer from Brentford, signing a three-year contract under Erik ten Hag’s management. While he played a key role in his debut season, making 25 Premier League starts and 44 appearances across all competitions, he missed a significant portion of the campaign with an ankle injury.
This term, Eriksen has seen his playing time reduced following the arrivals of Sofyan Amrabat and Mason Mount, as well as Scott McTominay’s impressive form. Reports suggest that Saudi clubs are prepared to offer around £17 million for the 31-year-old, which would represent a profit for United if they were to sanction his departure before his contract expires in 2025.
