Fernandes Shines Once More for Portugal

Bruno Fernandes continued his excellent form for Portugal on Monday evening, contributing to two more goals in his side’s dominant 5-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Manchester United captain, who had already provided two assists in his previous match, played a pivotal role in the Euro 2024 qualifier. Portugal, having already secured their place at next summer’s tournament in Germany, could approach the remaining fixtures without pressure. However, they still delivered a commanding performance, with all five goals coming in the first half. Fernandes added to the scoreline with a brilliant goal in the 25th minute, making it 3-0 after Cristiano Ronaldo’s earlier brace.

The assist for Fernandes’ goal came from rumoured United target Gonçalo Inácio, who lofted an inch-perfect pass over the top. Fernandes expertly controlled the ball with his chest before finishing clinically past the goalkeeper. Just before the interval, the midfielder showcased his creative flair once more, setting up Barcelona’s João Félix with some intricate footwork before sliding a low pass into the box for the fourth goal.

McTominay and Scotland Secure Euro 2024 Spot

Scott McTominay will join Fernandes in Germany next summer, as Scotland secured qualification for Euro 2024. The Tartan Army’s spot was confirmed after Spain defeated Norway 1-0, allowing Scotland to qualify with two games to spare. McTominay has been a standout performer for his national team, contributing six goals and one assist in just six matches, making him one of the top scorers in the qualifying campaign. His impressive international form follows his heroics for Manchester United, where he scored two injury-time goals to snatch a vital win over Brentford before the international break.

Several other Manchester United players have also played significant roles in helping their nations qualify for Euro 2024. Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes have qualified with Portugal, while goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has secured his place with Turkey. Meanwhile, nations such as Germany, France, Belgium, and Spain have also confirmed their participation in the tournament. Erik ten Hag’s squad will return to club action on Saturday, as they travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United in the Premier League.

Sevilla Eye Move for Greenwood

Sevilla are reportedly showing interest in Mason Greenwood, with a potential summer move on the horizon once his loan spell at Getafe concludes. Manchester United are expected to be open to a permanent transfer for the forward following a turbulent summer. United initially planned to reintegrate Greenwood into the squad after the charges of attempted rape and assault against him were dropped in February. However, due to significant backlash from supporters, the club reversed their decision, according to The Athletic.

On deadline day, the 22-year-old secured a loan move to Getafe, where he is set to remain for the rest of the 2023/2024 season. The Sun has reported that Greenwood has adapted well to life in Madrid and is open to the idea of extending his stay with Getafe. However, interest from a Champions League side like Sevilla could be an attractive proposition for the player. It remains unclear how much Manchester United would demand in transfer fees for Greenwood, whose contract runs until 2025. So far this season, the forward has contributed one goal and one assist in five appearances for Getafe.
