Six Players Manchester United (Probably) Will Not Sign This Summer

Manchester United are daily being rumoured with several players and the summer transfer window just began. It is expected that the club will make a lot of deals this summer, as the team needs an overhaul, but who is really going to be at Man United once the season starts in early August? We believe that these guys will not be there.

Matthijs de Ligt

Matthijs de Ligt had a season to remember at Ajax and on Thursday, his team celebrated the Dutch double on the streets of Amsterdam. He captained the team to two trophies, winning Eredivise among them, something Ajax have not done since 2014. They also got to Champions League semifinals and at 19, the Dutch centre-back is ready to make a move elsewhere. Barcelona seem to be top favourites, with United being mentioned in the media, but in every aspect, moving to Man United would be a step down for De Ligt.

Nicolas Pepe

Nicolas Pepe was the best player for LOSC Lille this season, as the French club are about to finish runners-up in Ligue 1 and set to return to Champions League football this September. Whilst it is obvious Pepe is ready to go to a bigger club and no one denies that, it is not obvious why he would come to Man United. Two clubs most interested in him are Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain and Man United fans should not be holding their breath on this one.

Milan Skriniar

Neither should they in regards to Milan Skriniar. The Inter Milan centre-back has been linked with Man United since the summer of 2018 and nothing ever came of it and it certainly will not this year, either. Skriniar signed a new contract with Inter which will keep him at the club until 2023, after two really good seasons in the centre of Nerazurri’s defence.

Wilfried Zaha

Wilfried Zaha is former Man United player and on Thursday The Telegraph reported that he “feels he has unfinished business with Manchester United and is prepared to rejoin if the club make a move”. But there are two questions here – could the Devils pay as much as Crystal Palace are expected to demand and should Man United pursue him for that kind of money. If you are going to pay 60-70 million pounds – because that is what Palace they could get for Zaha – is he really going to be the kind of player that will take this player forward? For one reason or another, this transfer probably will not happen.

Patrick van Aanholt

It was also mentioned earlier that Man United could be going for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Patrick van Aanholt and get them as a package, but that seems unrealistic. Devils could be more expected to get Wan-Bissaka alone, as Palace will demand a lot for him anyway and getting another of their starting full-backs will make them demand even more extortionate sums. Van Aanholt could be a decent deal for Man United in order to give some competition to Luke Shaw, but it is hard to see him actually improving the team drastically.
