How Did Manchester United Players Fare During Saturday International Matches?

Manchester United players are currently on the international break. The players are now all around the world playing friendly matches or participating in UEFA Nations League. Whatever the case is, there were four Man United players in action this Saturday.

On the other hand, Sergio Romero was not part of the play, as Argentina managed to get past Mexico without him in a 2-0 victory. Here are those that did play.

Nemanja Matic vs Montenegro

Nemanja Matic has not been in good form for Manchester United recently, but he was expectedly part of the starting XI in Serbia’s game against Montenegro. It was the second time these two countries have since 2006 and the split up of Serbia and Montenegro as a single country. The first one was last month, a 2-0 win, and this time Serbia was on top again. However, this time Nemanja Matic played and he did well in 90 minutes he played.

The midfielder played in a 4-2-3-1 alongside Nemanja Maksimovic, talented Getafe midfielder, and his game did not ring any bells – it was not spectacular, but not was it bad. He did get a yellow card in a match where Serbia could have scored at least two more, but also where Montenegro had their chances to equalize late on. If Serbia beat Lithuania on Tuesday, Matic and his fellow countrymen will get promoted to Division B of Nations League.

Victor Lindelöf vs Turkey

Sweden are already there, in Division B, and it looks like they will be staying there. After beating Turkey 1-0, Sweden are certain they will not get relegated to Division C, but they could still end up first in their group and get a promotion as well. Victor Lindelöf was part of that big win in Turkey, and now Sweden need to beat Russia if they are to snatch the promotion from the hosts of the last World Cup.

Lindelöf started the match as the pair to Andreas Granqvist, who scored the only goal from the spot. Sweden played in an atypical 4-2-2-2 formation, but Man United’s player got substituted at half-time, as he struggled with illness.

Scott McTominay vs Albania

The last of those Man United players who were involved in Nations League matches is Victor Lindelöf. The Scotsman did not start for the Tartan Army, but he came on in the second half to give his contribution in a 4-0 drubbing of Albania. It was a great away win for everyone involved with Scotland, as James Forrest scored a brace and Steven Fletcher and Ryan Fraser added another one each.

McTominay played for the last half hour, after coming on for Stuart Armstrong when the result was already 3-0.

Alexis Sanchez vs Costa Rica

Alexis Sanchez played all 90 minutes in Chile’s 3-2 loss to Costa Rica. Man United’s winger managed to both score a goal and miss a penalty. First, at 3-1 for Costa Rica, he missed a penalty after 86 minutes of play. However, he managed to score deep into the stoppage time, but that was not enough for his team to avoid defeat.
