Players Manchester United Should Not Chase This Summer

Transfer rumours are always going to be big around Manchester United. One of the biggest clubs in the world is always the target of the talk regarding new players coming in or out. This summer, that has been the case even more than usually, as the World Cup took the attention of millions of football fans. However, with plenty of names being mentioned in conversation with the Devils, here are some players the club should avoid signing this summer.

Ivan Perisic

He has been on United’s radar for years now. If the media are to be believed, he was very close to signing and leaving Inter for the Devils. With that not happening then, it should definitely not happen now. Ivan Perisic played a huge part in Croatia’s great success in Russia where they reached the final, but that should not be the reason for a transfer to Manchester United. First of all, he is a left winger and that in itself could be enough to end this conversation.

Man United are stocked with wingers who play on the left and the team even had troubles fitting both Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial in the same starting XI, exactly because of the duo being used to playing in the same spot. With Perisic, that would only complicate things even further and maybe the Frenchman would be expected to leave. That would be far from a wise move, as Perisic is also going to be 30 next February and if that is not enough either, his overall performances at Inter were good, but not spectacular and not too consistent either.

Leonardo Bonucci

Leonardo Bonucci is a really good centre-back. However, he has one big drawback. His season with AC Milan was mostly appalling and just a little bit later on in the season more reliable. But overall, it was far from what he was making us get used to when he played at Juventus. And that is the thing, at 31, there could be genuine fear that his career is going downwards. Sure, this might be just a bad season, but for United to spend a lot of money on a 31-year old centre-back on the back of his worst season in years, that is a gamble.

A gamble United do not need right now. If the club is really going to sign a new centre-back, then it would be wiser to look at other places. Those other places might be even more expensive, but would be more solid and the player would be a younger one. Who said Jose Gimenez?

Ante Rebic

Another Croatian is on this list. He is an up and coming player who really shined at this tournament. Many of those who watched him first time were surprised, but it was somewhat expected, having in mind his talents and the way he played at Eintracht Frankfurt. Now there are rumours that his compatriot Niko Kovac could be signing him at Bayern Munich. So he is really good then?

Maybe, but United do not need a player who is a mixture of a forward and left winger. Those are the two positions where United have great options. Signing Rebic to be a backup for Lukaku would simply be too much and Rebic would not want that either.
