Transfer Round-Up: What Does The Rumour Mill Says Regarding Manchester United?

The transfer speculation is in full swing all over Europe. The January transfer market has emerged as the perfect chance for teams to strengthen their squads ahead of the second part of the campaign.

Manchester United does not escape to that reality, and there have been lots of rumours surrounding the team in the past few days. Here are some of the biggest ones.

Lucas Moura

It seems Lucas Moura is the most likely player to arrive at Old Trafford during the current transfer window. And if recent rumours are true, then United are details away from sealing the deal. Lucas does not have space at PSG, and he would certainly make an impact on the attacking third for The Red Devils.

According to French outlet Telefoot, Moura would only leave PSG to join Manchester United. Other clubs such as Bordeaux, Nantes, Real Betis and Nice. But Moura has apparently made his choice, and the 25-year-old could be on the verge of arriving at Old Trafford if both clubs can reach an agreement.

Kieran Tierney

Manchester United could sign a left-back in recent weeks. Luke Shaw might leave the club (or maybe not), but The Red Devils have been linked with moves for Danny Rose and Ryan Sessegnon, just to name a few. But the most recent name to sneak into the shortlist is no other than Kieran Tierney.

Celtic’s left-back could be a cheaper version of Rose, as Tottenham does not want to part ways with him if he is going to strengthen a direct opponent on the race for a Champions League berth. Tierney has emerged as one of the most consistent left-backs in Britain, and is certainly one name to keep an eye going forward.

Antoine Griezmann

There is no doubt that Griezmann is one of the best forwards in the world. The Atletico Madrid star might move to FC Barcelona, though, apparently leaving United out of the race to sign him.

As it turns out, that might not be the case. The Manchester Evening News reported that The Red Devils “have been told how to sign” Griezmann this summer, and the answer is simple: money. If The Red Devils can offer him a massive £400,000-a-week salary, then he would snub Barca and join United instead. The final decision lies on the ownership, but adding a generational talent like Griezmann could end up being a difference maker in the near future.

Contract Extensions

We reported a long time ago that United were about to trigger several 12-month contract extensions. That report became a reality, as Juan Mata, Daley Blind, Ashley Young and Ander Herrera have received one-year extensions. This means they will remain with the team until 2019 at the earliest.

While adding depth is always a good thing, it is a bit puzzling to see Blind getting an extension. It seems to be a business move in order to get profit out of him, as the Dutch international no longer remains part of Jose Mourinho’s first-choice squad. Mata and Young have emerged as regular starters this season, while Herrera has stated in every way possible that he wants to remain with the club even if he is not playing as much as he did last season.
