Manchester United have been linked with a move for Lucas Moura during the current January transfer window. However, recent reports have indicated that The Red Devils might consider the Brazilian a “backup plan” for the player they really want to sign.
We are talking about Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean winger looks frustrated at Arsenal. And according to reports, he is willing to leave the club during the current January transfer window. Many experts believed there was an agreement in place so he could join Manchester City, but that might not happen after all. United have reportedly entered the race to acquire the Chilean winger. In fact, they have submitted an offer to Arsenal’s office. Seemingly out of nowhere, The Red Devils are alive on Sanchez’s pursuit.
Per several reports that included respected sources such as Gianluca DiMarzio, United have offered a £20 million transfer fee plus Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Arsenal. That’s more than Manchester City’s offer, as The Citizens are only offering a transfer fee to Arsenal. By all accounts, United’s bid looks substantially stronger. Arsenal would not only get their money back, but they would also acquire a player they can have for the foreseeable future. Mkhitaryan might have not worked at United, but there is no question he is a talented player. And when he is on, he can tear the Premier League apart just like he did at the start of the current season.
On the other hand, United would get much better with Sanchez leading the attacking line. The Chile international might not be on his best form at the moment, but make no mistake. He is a world-class player, and everybody knows he can be a deadly striker with the right team around him. His versatility is also a plus, since the Chilean can play all over the attacking third. He can thrive as a winger on both sides, and can operate as an attacking midfielder as well. He even played as a striker last season for Arsenal, and the move paid off.
It remains to be seen whether United completes the move for Alexis or not. After all, Arsenal would need to accept the bid first. Even on that scenario, United should reach an agreement with the player as well. But one thing is certain. Out of nowhere, Jose Mourinho’s men are alive on the race to sign one of the most coveted players in the transfer market. That should only mean good things for the team going forward. Because even if they can’t get Sanchez, this is a sign the team wants to do serious business in the transfer window.
Now only time will tell what would happen. But with several weeks left in the transfer window, there is enough time for United to sign quality reinforcements. And adding someone like Alexis would certainly boost the team going forward.
