Three Midfielders Manchester United Could Sign This Summer

Manchester United have been looking to add at least one midfielder during the current transfer window. It is not a secret they need to increase their depth in the middle of the pitch.

Currently the team has Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini as CM options. However, it wouldn’t hurt to add at least one more player. Nemanja Matic and Eric Dier have been linked as options, but both are quite expensive. And Tiemoue Bakayoko signed with Chelsea, so he is off the market as well. Fabinho could also be an alternative, but all signs indicate he will either stay at Monaco or sign with PSG.

Considering we are quickly approaching August, here are three midfielders that remain available and could land at Old Trafford in the coming weeks.

Wilfred Ndidi

Jose Mourinho loves hard-working players in midfield. And there is no question Manchester United need a combative presence in the middle of the pitch. Neither Fellaini, Carrick or Ander fit that mold, and The Red Devils could use a defensive-minded player next to someone like Herrera or Pogba. And Wildred Ndidi fits the mold perfectly.

Ndidi was one of the reasons why Leicester turned their season around since the arrival of Craig Shakespeare to the Foxes. The former Genk midfielder left the void created by N’Golo Kante, and he transitioned to the Premier League seamlessly despite the fact he never played on a tier above the Belgian Jupiler League. It remains to be seen whether Leicester would be keen to sell his star midfielder, though. Especially if we consider both Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez could be on their way out of the team.

But all things considered, the 20-year-old Nigerian defensive specialist would fit perfectly with what United needs in midfield. Especially considering he would be a signing for both the present and the future.

Grzegorz Krychowiak

Continuing with the mold of defensive-minded players. Grzegorz Krychowiak is currently out of favour at PSG and it is not a secret the Polish midfielder is leaving the club in the coming weeks. Atletico Madrid and Sevilla are reportedly interested to sign him. However, some experts have began to consider United as a suitable destination. And even though United are yet to submit an offer, the arrival of the Krychowiak does make a lot of sense.

He might be older than Ndidi since he is 27 years old, but he has a few advantages over the Nigerian. First of all, he is far more experienced since he has already played in Spain and France. As if that wasn’t enough, he’s a regular in the Polish National Team. United would have to battle with Valencia to capture his services, but he would be a very good signing. Not to mention he would be the cheaper of this list, since PSG are eager to let him go.

Marco Verratti

The second PSG-bound player in this list, Verratti is heralded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. And as such, his signature is quite complicated for a number of reasons. First of all, the Ligue 1 giants do not want to sell the Italian playmaker. And in case they do, there are two other hurdles United would need to clear. Verratti has made clear he wants to sign with FC Barcelona, and they would likely have to overpay for his services.

That being said, there is no question Verratti would be an awesome signature for The Red Devils. He is a box-to-box midfielder known for being technical with the ball and active off it. He can play on a defensive stance, but can adept to a more attacking stance if needed. If paired with Ander and Pogba, they would likely form one of the best midfield groups in the Premier League. It remains to be seen if United decides to pay what PSG are asking. But there is no question he would be worth the investment.

  1. Most options being named in recent articles are fine. It’s always hard to predict who will click at MU, especially if they haven’t played EPL before. Any quality defensive/holding midfielder will cut Pogba loose and that’s the main object of the exercise. But one thing I believe is that if Matic is coming with a “Lukaku tax,” we should tell Chelsea to shove it. All the crying about Lukaku: We got in first. Good business. We didn’t break any rules. You snooze, you lose, baby. And you’re pissed off enough to try and penalize US for that? Be careful: That street runs both ways. Not to mention that your bitterness must be making Morata feel like a total second-stringer. Chelsea are showing signs of a club that will have internal problems this year.

  2. Please, Manchester United should get Verratti for us not minding his release cl: ‎+2348101151702‎ause, because he will fill the void. Or better still go for Monaco’s man.
