Manchester United have unveiled a statute of Sir Alex Ferguson outside of Old Trafford to celebrate his 26 years in charge and the unbelievable achievements over the years. Legendary players, such as Eric Cantona, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, were present as the statue was unveiled. There were video messages from David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo and it was left to Sir Alex’s wife Cathy to unveil the statue to the public.
Ex-United forward Cristiano Ronaldo was full of complements for his ex boss:
You 100 per cent deserve this with what you have done. I wish to be there with you but my schedule is busy with games as you know. I hope to see you soon because I need to practice my English and not my Scottish. Thanks boss. All the best to you.
David Beckham was apologetic for not being there but was extremely positive about his time at Old Trafford:
Sorry I can’t be there for this amazing day. My time at Manchester United was without doubt the best of my career and I cherish those moments.
Sir Alex was his usual self when assessing his statue:
‘Normally people die before they see their statue. I’m outliving death. This is a really proud moment.’
Here is the statue in its full glory:
Many thanks to Criag Norwood for providing the photo.
