Antonio Valencia
Silly season is in full swing, but news has remained surprisingly quiet around Old Trafford. No new speculation to report. Matt James has been recalled from his loan at Preston North End, Kiko Macheda is looking forward to his loan, and Nani wants to be invincible. The big news today is not in the papers though; a certain Ecuadorian winger has reached an important milestone on his return from a long-term injury.

James back at United – Sky Sports

Matt James has been recalled from his loan at Preston North End. This comes just a week after Darren Ferguson was sacked as the club’s manager. Ritchie De Laet and Josh King were both recalled from loans at Preston North End in the wake of Ferguson’s dismal, though it is believed that James did not have a recall option in his loan. Manchester United has apparently negotiated for James’ return. The 19-year-old midfielder scored three goals in 30 appearances while on loan.

Macheda happy with loan move – Sky Sports

Kiko Macheda is looking forward to developing as a player during his loan at Sampdoria. The 19-year-old striker has rarely featured for United this season, and he is expected to get more first team opportunities back home in Italy. Some, including myself, feared that a loan back home would be the end of Macheda’s United career, but his focus remains on returning to Old Trafford: “In this regard, we are all happy because in six months’ time, Manchester United will get a stronger player.”

Nani aiming for unbeaten season – Guardian

Manchester United has now made it over halfway through the Premier League campaign without registering a loss, which has sparked the inevitable talk of an unbeaten season. Following yesterday’s win against Stoke City, Nani voiced his desire to go the entire season unbeaten. While I admit it would be a interesting accomplishment, it does not even compare to winning a record 19th league title. I suppose going unbeaten would help the team on their way to lifting the Premier League, but come May it is solely No. 19 that I care about. Well, that and officially knocking Liverpool off their fucking perch.

Twitter… While there is no official story yet, The Telegraph’s Mark Ogden reported via Twitter that Antonio Valenica had returned to training today. Valencia is still 5-6 weeks from match fitness, but he is on course for the expected February return.
