Following Wayne Rooney’s recent contract extension Manchester United confirmed that Nemanja Vidic has agreed to a new long-term deal at the club. This comes straight from David Gill on the official site and MUTV, so this should put an end to the uncertainty surrounding the player the past 24 hours. The deal has been verbally agreed, and the Serbian centre back will put pen to paper when he returns from holiday at the beginning of August.
Usually I would post a poll here, but “Are you pleased that Vidic is staying?” doesn’t seem like a worthwhile question.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s quotes yesterday were hardly reassuring about Vidic’s future, but today it looks like all the speculation linking him with a move away from Old Trafford can finally be put to rest. While uncertainty has surround Vidic’s future, it seems the deal has been in place for awhile now. Gill said the deal had been agreed upon three or four weeks ago, and is now a matter getting the paperwork sorted and Vidic signing the contract. He believes the deal should be complete by early August.
It’s always reassuring to see Vidic at the back and it seems he’ll be there for years to come. With Rio Ferdinand’s recurring injury problems, Vidic was a player the club could not afford to lose. The club has done a fantastic job at securing his long-term future at the club.
Along with confirming news of Vidic’s contract extension, Gill also said the club will begin negotiations with Wayne Rooney over a new long-term deal when the striker returns from holiday. It certainly comes as welcome news to hear two of our key players are getting their long-term futures with the club sorted out.
