Manchester United extended their unbeaten run to four matches after a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. The visitors dominated the first half and went into the break with a 1-0 lead, only for the game to descend into chaos after the interval.
Casemiro opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a powerful header, sparking frustration among home supporters who believed the corner leading to the goal should not have been awarded. Forest then stunned United with two goals in the opening five minutes of the second half, overturning the scoreline completely. However, Amad Diallo salvaged a point for the Red Devils with a superb finish late on, ensuring the visitors avoided defeat.
United Fall Back Into Bad Habits
After impressive wins against Liverpool and Brighton, United appeared to have turned a corner, but old issues resurfaced in Nottingham. Despite early dominance, the visitors ignored warning signs and allowed Forest to regain momentum. Morgan Gibbs-White’s equaliser was expected, while Nicolo Savona’s strike seconds later epitomised United’s recurring lapses in focus.
Although Amorim’s men showed determination to fight back, their inability to hold onto a lead remains a concern. The collapse reflected mental fragility and defensive carelessness that have plagued the team throughout the season. Amorim will be aware that progress is fragile, and such moments of self-destruction continue to undermine their rebuilding efforts.
Struggles Against The Low Block
Once Forest went ahead, United’s attack faltered against Dyche’s deep defensive setup. The home side sat back, denying space to Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, who struggled to make an impact. The visitors’ passing patterns became predictable, and their second-half build-up play was slow and unimaginative.
United’s reliance on transition-based football again proved costly. Top Premier League teams are expected to unlock compact defences, yet Amorim’s side failed to generate sustained pressure or creativity. This match served as a reminder that without solutions to break down low blocks, United’s progress will remain inconsistent.
Casemiro’s Scoring Form Continues
Casemiro maintained his strong run in front of goal, finding the net for the third time in the Premier League this season. The Brazilian midfielder stood out in the first half, contributing both defensively and offensively. His aerial prowess once again made him United’s most dangerous player inside the box.
If he maintains this form, Casemiro could realistically reach double figures by the end of the campaign. His leadership and finishing ability continue to mask some of United’s creative shortcomings in attack.
Anderson Shines In Midfield
Elliot Anderson, heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, delivered an eye-catching performance for Forest. The 22-year-old controlled the midfield, won key duels, and helped his side transition smoothly from defence to attack. His display will not have gone unnoticed by Amorim or United’s recruitment staff.
Compared to Carlos Baleba’s subdued outing at Old Trafford last week, Anderson’s influence was far greater. With performances like this, speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford is only likely to intensify as the January transfer window approaches.
