Højlund Nearing Exit as Inter Milan Show Interest

Rasmus Højlund’s time at Manchester United could soon be drawing to a close, with both the club and player seemingly prepared to part ways after just two seasons. The Danish striker, signed for £64 million, has not developed as expected, and the new hierarchy under INEOS may be ready to cut their losses rather than persist with a misfiring investment. In his debut Premier League campaign, Højlund netted ten goals in 30 appearances, but he struggled for form in 2024–25, scoring only four times in 32 matches. His impact off the ball has also been underwhelming, especially when compared to Joshua Zirkzee, whose fluid link-up play and positional intelligence made him a favourite in the second half of the season.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter Milan have already made an approach for Højlund. Sporting Director Piero Ausilio reportedly held discussions with United this week to assess the viability of a deal. The striker is said to have approved the move in principle, but the Italian side’s preferred structure may cause complications.

Inter are aiming to take Højlund on loan with an obligation to buy for around £37.9 million in 2026. United, however, want to secure immediate funds and are pushing for a permanent transfer this summer. Despite the gap in approach, Inter remain confident that a compromise can be found before the window closes.

United Return With Stronger Offer for Mbeumo

Manchester United have stepped up their efforts to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, returning with an improved bid after their initial offer failed to meet the London club’s valuation. Their first proposal, worth £55 million including add-ons, was swiftly rejected, prompting a revised approach. According to ESPN, the second bid exceeds £60 million, although it is not yet clear how the fee would be structured. Brentford are in no rush and are prepared to hold firm, especially after seeing United trigger Matheus Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause. The Bees view Mbeumo’s value in a similar bracket, given his standout performances last season.

The 25-year-old enjoyed the best campaign of his career in 2024–25, scoring over 20 goals and providing eight assists in 38 appearances. He started every match of the Premier League season and capped his year with a goal on the final day against Wolves.

Despite offers from Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham, all of whom can offer Champions League football, Mbeumo has made United his top choice. Talks between the clubs are ongoing, with both sides hopeful of reaching an agreement in the coming days. Brentford manager Thomas Frank has already acknowledged that losing Mbeumo is a likely outcome. He described the club as a “selling club” in a recent interview, though he made it clear that any departure would depend on a significant financial offer. He said that only a small number of clubs globally are not open to selling and that Brentford would require a substantial sum to approve the transfer.
