Team News

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo has a few fitness concerns ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Manchester United. Chris Wood is facing a race against time to recover from a hip problem picked up during the international break with New Zealand. The striker is considered a major doubt and, should he be ruled out, former United winger Anthony Elanga could lead the line, with Jota Silva taking his place on the flank. Morgan Gibbs-White, meanwhile, will undergo a late fitness test after colliding heavily with the post during the recent encounter with Brighton. Optimism remains that the playmaker will be fit to feature, which would be a significant boost for Forest. Elsewhere, Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to retain his spot on the left wing, and imposing centre-half Nikola Milenković will anchor the defence.

For Manchester United, five players have returned to training: Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Altay Bayındır, Tom Heaton, and Patrick Dorgu are all in contention to be included in the squad. Dorgu, who has served a domestic suspension, is likely to start on the left after impressing against Real Sociedad in the Europa League. However, Luke Shaw remains sidelined, alongside Lisandro Martínez, Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Ayden Heaven, and Jonny Evans. Manager Ruben Amorim may shuffle his side with an eye on freshness and momentum. Joshua Zirkzee could earn a recall up front, while Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund are expected to keep their places after both ended goal droughts against Leicester. Maguire and Yoro are likely candidates to return to the defensive trio.

Form Guide

Forest’s campaign has been nothing short of astonishing. After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, few would have predicted that Nuno’s side would be flying high in third place with just nine matches to go. With 54 points from 29 games – boasting 16 wins, six draws, and just seven defeats – they sit six points ahead of fifth-placed Manchester City and are genuine contenders for a Champions League berth. Their home form has been particularly formidable. Forest are unbeaten in their last eight Premier League outings at the City Ground, including eye-catching results against Arsenal and Liverpool. They defeated United 3-2 at Old Trafford earlier this season and are aiming for a first league double over the Red Devils since the 1991–92 season, when the legendary Brian Clough was in charge.

Manchester United, by contrast, have struggled for consistency. Their 3-0 win over Leicester just before the international break was their first league victory in over a month, and they have yet to register back-to-back wins in the Premier League this season. Nevertheless, they dismantled Real Sociedad 4-1 at Old Trafford in the Europa League and appear to be finding form at just the right time.

Predicted Outcome

This fixture promises drama, intensity, and high stakes. Forest are strong at home and have recent history on their side, but United’s extra rest could prove crucial. While either team is capable of nicking all three points, the likeliest outcome appears to be a draw. We predict Manchester United will get a 1-1 draw at City Ground.
