Real Madrid Eye Diogo Dalot as Right-Back Option

With their interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold temporarily shelved, Real Madrid have shifted their focus to alternative options at right-back. Reports suggest Los Blancos are now exploring Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot as a potential target. According to Ben Jacobs, Real Madrid have initiated ‘exploratory contact’ regarding Dalot’s availability. United, however, maintain that the 25-year-old is not for sale. Yet, Madrid are said to believe a £45 million offer—representing a £26 million profit on the player’s original fee—might tempt the Reds to reconsider.

Dalot, who signed a five-year contract extension in May, has been a reliable figure at Old Trafford since arriving from Porto in 2018. The Portuguese defender has amassed 180 appearances in all competitions, featuring prominently last season with 48 starts. Despite his consistency, questions persist over whether he fully meets the demands of Ruben Amorim’s system, especially given the immediate impact Noussair Mazraoui has made. Madrid’s shortlist also includes Pedro Porro, Juanlu, and Jeremie Frimpong, with Alexander-Arnold reportedly prioritising a contract extension at Liverpool.

Devils Linked With Palace Defender

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are reportedly targeting Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi as they seek to strengthen their defensive options in January. The lack of depth at centre-back has been evident since Amorim’s adoption of his preferred 3-4-2-1 system, forcing full-back Noussair Mazraoui into a makeshift role in the back three.

According to Fichajes, Guehi is viewed as a solution to United’s defensive conundrum. The 24-year-old has flourished since leaving Chelsea for Crystal Palace in 2021, becoming a key figure for the Eagles and earning the club captaincy. His consistent performances have also solidified his place in the England national team, for whom he has won 22 caps. This season, he has been an ever-present figure in Oliver Glasner’s squad, playing every minute across all competitions.

Crystal Palace are reportedly seeking €60 million for Guehi, but United are optimistic they can negotiate the fee down to €40 million. While a mid-season transfer could be challenging, the player’s willingness to move could play a decisive role in making the deal happen.

Nani Announces Retirement From Football

Former Manchester United winger Nani has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 38. The decision comes as a surprise, as the Portuguese veteran was still active in his homeland with Estrela Amadora. In a heartfelt statement shared on his X account, Nani revealed that the recent passing of his father influenced his decision to step away from the game to spend more time with his family. His announcement was accompanied by a three-minute video reflecting on his career.

“The time has come to say goodbye. I have decided to finish my career as a professional player,” Nani said. “It’s been an amazing ride, and I want to thank everyone who supported me through the highs and lows of a career that lasted over 20 years and gave me so many unforgettable memories. Time to turn a new leaf and focus on new goals and dreams. See you soon!” The announcement marks the end of a storied career that saw Nani win multiple honours, including four Premier League titles and a Champions League with Manchester United.
