Fulham the Favourites to Sign McTominay
Fulham are reportedly leading the chase to acquire Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer. Manchester United are open to offers for many of their players as they prepare for a significant squad overhaul. Fans understand that this process will be gradual and may not yield immediate results after the first transfer window. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team are expected to take more than one summer to refine the squad.
According to Manchester World, Fulham are currently the frontrunners for McTominay’s signature. Coach Marco Silva is particularly keen on bringing the 27-year-old to Craven Cottage. Should the move materialise, McTominay would reunite with former United teammate Andreas Pereira, who has flourished under Silva’s management.
However, Fulham are not the only Premier League club interested in McTominay. Newcastle, West Ham, and Southampton have also shown interest in the Scotland international. With Scotland’s exit from the European Championship, McTominay now has the summer to prepare for the new season, though his future with United remains uncertain.
Garnacho to Miss Out on Olympics
Alejandro Garnacho has not been selected for Argentina’s squad for the upcoming Olympics in Paris. The Manchester United forward, who is currently participating in the Copa America, was initially considered for the Olympic team. His exclusion from the squad alleviates potential disruptions to his preparation for the 2024/25 season, allowing him to focus on his club duties.
Last month, it was reported that United had blocked Garnacho’s participation in the Olympics, which aligns with Erik ten Hag’s desire to have his key players fully prepared for the new season. Argentina U20 coach Javier Mascherano has named an 18-man squad with four standby players, none of whom include Garnacho, as per Reuters.
Although Garnacho has not played a pivotal role in the Copa America, he did start in Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Peru last week. With 50 appearances for United last season, including 39 consecutive starts and 10 goals, it is crucial for him to have some time off before the new campaign begins to avoid burnout.
