Saudi Clubs Hesitant on Casemiro
Manchester United are expected to face significant challenges in offloading players this summer, with Casemiro being one of the higher-profile names likely to leave for a reduced fee. The Brazilian, once a key signing from Real Madrid, is now considered surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. His age, combined with the decline in his form, means his market value has naturally decreased.
When signing players in their 30s, clubs must accept that their resale value will inevitably drop, and that seems to be the case with Casemiro. This season, he was frequently asked to fill in at centre-back, which did little to enhance his performance or reputation. His midfield displays also fell short of the high standards expected.
According to GOAL, United have set a £30 million asking price for Casemiro this summer. However, no Saudi Pro League clubs appear to be willing to meet that valuation, likely believing they can negotiate a lower fee for the veteran midfielder. Al Nassr, Al-Ahli, and Al-Qadisiyah have all reportedly expressed interest in acquiring his services. Casemiro was notably disappointed after being left out of the FA Cup final squad. ESPN Brazil’s Joao Castelo-Branco refuted manager Erik ten Hag’s claims that the Brazilian was carrying an injury, while Sofyan Amrabat took on the role of protecting the defence from midfield in the final.
Lazio Enter the Race for Greenwood
Lazio have reportedly joined the race to sign Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, with Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund also monitoring the situation. The 22-year-old spent last season at Getafe, following a mutual decision to continue his career away from Old Trafford. The loan proved successful, with Greenwood netting 10 goals and providing six assists, but his future at United looks uncertain as bigger clubs prepare to make offers.
With Greenwood’s days at United seemingly numbered, interest from various European clubs is growing. Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has revealed that Lazio have now entered the fray, viewing Greenwood as a potential replacement for Felipe Anderson, who primarily operates on the right wing.
Lazio have reportedly contacted intermediaries to gather more information about Greenwood’s situation. They were previously linked with a loan move for the attacker last summer but failed to finalise the deal. Time will tell if they can secure his services this time around. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund remain in the running and are expected to make a decision after the Champions League final against Real Madrid. Reports from Germany suggest that Dortmund would be open to taking Greenwood on loan, adding another layer of complexity to the forward’s future.
