Amrabat Set to Leave Manchester United
Manchester United are gearing up for a crucial summer as Sir Jim Ratcliffe prepares for his first transfer window as co-owner of the club. Major decisions loom, with uncertainties surrounding players like Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, and the future of manager Erik ten Hag needing resolution before the 2024/25 season begins.
Several loanees will also return to the club in the coming months, seeking clarity on their roles at Old Trafford. Among them is Sofyan Amrabat, who joined United on a season-long loan during last summer’s transfer window. The Moroccan midfielder arrived to strengthen Ten Hag’s midfield options but has struggled to secure a regular place in the starting line-up.
With the rise of Kobbie Mainoo and the impactful performances of Scott McTominay, Amrabat found it challenging to make his mark. When given opportunities, his displays fell short of the high expectations set after his impressive performances at the 2022 World Cup.
However, Amrabat showed glimpses of his quality towards the end of the season, particularly during the final weeks. He stepped in for Casemiro and started United’s last three Premier League matches before featuring in the FA Cup final. Despite a commendable effort in that match, which saw him earn a winner’s medal, United are not expected to make his loan deal permanent.
United Duo Named in Denmark Euro 2024 Squad
Manchester United players Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Højlund have been named in Denmark’s squad for the upcoming UEFA European Championship in Germany this summer. The Danes will face England, Serbia, and Slovenia in Group C, with their opening match scheduled for June 16 against Slovenia.
Denmark, known for their shock Euro 1982 triumph, will be looking to build on their recent successes. They have now qualified for consecutive European Championships for the first time in two decades. Rasmus Højlund, at just 21, will be making his debut at a major international tournament, while Christian Eriksen, now 32, is potentially heading to his last.
The Danes reached the semi-final stage of Euro 2021, where they were narrowly defeated 2-1 by England at Wembley. Eriksen’s inclusion adds experience to the squad, although he is widely expected to leave Manchester United this summer.
McKenna Signs New Ipswich Deal
Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new four-year contract at Portman Road. The 38-year-old has guided Ipswich to back-to-back promotions, securing their return to the Premier League.
McKenna’s impressive achievements have seen him linked with several top clubs, including Brighton, Chelsea, and even Manchester United. However, no formal offers materialised, and the young coach has opted to stay with Ipswich as they prepare for the challenge of Premier League football.
Once highly regarded at United for his coaching roles under José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, McKenna was seen as a potential candidate for the managerial role at Old Trafford. Yet, many fans believed it was too early for him to take such a step. His new deal with Ipswich will give him the chance to prove himself in the top flight, although the club is likely to face a difficult season battling against relegation.
