We are getting closer to the end of season and a tricky month of April has arrived. Manchester United will not have as many matches as some other English clubs, most notably because they are not playing in any European competitions, but nevertheless, some important and tough games lay ahead. Here is what you need to know ahead of the penultimate month of this complicated campaign.
First Up – Stamford Bridge
A great FA Cup win midway through March, against Liverpool, gave everyone at the club a big boost, but a 1-1 draw against Brentford has made things worse again. Now, just couple of days after that trip, Manchester United will be visiting London, Stamford Bridge to be precise. A trip to Chelsea is never an easy task, despite the fact the Blues have been sitting mid-table throughout the campaign. Erik Ten Hag’s side can be vulnerable against any side, but if there is a spirited performance on a midweek night in the capital, then the subsequent matches could arrive in even better mood.
Man United Meet With Liverpool, Again
Mere two weeks have passed since our last match against Liverpool, a 4-3 win after extra-time in the FA Cup quarterfinal match. Now, in the Premier League, the Merseyside team are coming to Manchester once more and this time they have a lot at stake again. After winning League Cup, Jurgen Klopp hoped for his farewell season to yield more silverware. In the FA Cup that will not happen and if Liverpool fail to win the three points at Old Trafford on 7 April, their title race against Arsenal and Manchester City could be officially over.
Points To Win At Vitality
If United are starting their month with tough matches against Chelsea and Liverpool, then the following match should not be as complicated. Man United will be traveling to Bournemouth to face Andoni Iraola’s side. They have been on the rise in recent weeks, but if United want to have a strong end to the campaign and the best possible preparation for the FA Cup finish, this match is the one United should be winning.
Let’s Go To Wembley
Manchester United were in luck after beating Liverpool in the FA Cup quarterfinal, because they got drawn in the semifinal against Championship’s Coventry City. The match at Wembley will be played on 21 April and it is not even worth pointing out how overwhelming favourites the Red Devils will be for that match. This should be another season in which Ten Hag will lead United to an FA Cup final. Last season the team lost to Manchester City 2-1 and hopefully we are now two wins away from lifting the trophy.
Two Relegation-Bound Teams At Old Trafford
And last but not the least – United will be ending April 2024 with two home matches against two teams which seem bound to get back to Championship. First up, on 24 April, Man United will host Sheffield United, clearly the worst Premier League side this season, before they host Burnley three days later, as Vincent Kompany’s first managerial Premier League season seems to be getting closer to an unsuccessful ending.
