Manchester United Eye Dani Olmo
Dani Olmo, who began his career in Barcelona’s academy before making a significant impact at Dinamo Zagreb and subsequently RB Leipzig, is reportedly attracting interest from Manchester United. The Spaniard is poised for a major move this summer, with United among the clubs vying for his signature. According to the Daily Mail, United faces stiff competition from Real Madrid, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea for Olmo. The RB Leipzig midfielder has a release clause set at £52 million, which could prove a barrier if United are to secure his services. Olmo has been in impressive form this season, netting seven goals in 19 appearances across all competitions. His performance for Spain, including a goal in their 3-3 draw with Brazil, has only heightened his profile. At 25, Olmo offers a high ceiling for further development, and his versatility—able to play on either wing or just behind the striker—makes him an attractive prospect for any top club. Though Olmo signed a contract extension with Leipzig last June, keeping him at the club until 2027, the presence of his release clause has drawn interest from several potential suitors. United’s plans for the summer include bolstering multiple positions, including centre-forward, centre-back, and left-back. The need for a central midfielder could also arise, depending on departures at Old Trafford.
OGC Nice Captain: A Costly Option
OGC Nice have reportedly set a £40 million price tag for their captain and French international Jean-Clair Todibo. Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed this via X, noting that Todibo has been on United’s radar since last summer. United is actively scouting for young centre-backs with the potential to become top-tier defenders, and Todibo is among the candidates being considered. He joins a list that includes Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Benfica’s António Silva. The £40 million valuation for Todibo appears reasonable given the potential cost of Branthwaite or Silva. Additionally, with the Ineos Sports group holding a significant stake in Nice, there could be an inclination to bring Todibo into their ongoing project. Former United striker Louis Saha has praised Todibo’s capabilities, suggesting he could be a strong fit for Erik ten Hag’s system. Saha commented that he is a very good defender, but that he has been unlucky due to the current golden generation of French defenders. He said that generation is the reason why Todibo doesn’t have many caps for the national team of France. Former Man United striker also pointed out that Todibo is great on the ball, calm and would suit Manchester United’s style of play. This endorsement further highlights Todibo’s potential value to United as they look to strengthen their defensive options in a summer transfer window where at least one new centre-back will have to be brought in. That is especially the case when Raphael Varane is edging closer to not getting a new contract and Jonny Evans was never meant to be the long-term solution.
