Martial Could Leave Manchester United Soon
Manchester United could be in for a busy January transfer window, particularly on the outgoing side. Several players have uncertain futures after failing to secure moves away from the club over the summer. Among those with unclear situations are Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek, Harry Maguire, and Anthony Martial, who may all be set for potential exits in the coming months. Martial has fallen further down the pecking order following the arrival of Rasmus Højlund, who has made a stellar start to his United career with three goals in the Champions League already. Martial, meanwhile, remains under contract until the end of this season, and it is still undecided whether the club will activate their option to extend his deal by another year.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has hinted that Martial could depart in January if a suitable offer is made. Romano shared in an interview with CaughtOffside that United would not stand in the Frenchman’s way if an “important proposal” arrives. “The situation remains the same as July and August; with an important proposal, Martial could leave in January,” Romano explained. However, if no such offer is forthcoming, the club would be content to retain him as part of their rotation. Ten Hag appears open to both outcomes, given United’s current injury crisis and limited options. Although Martial is the only senior striker capable of stepping in for Højlund should the Dane suffer an injury, his own injury record casts doubt over his long-term reliability.
Greenwood Considering Permanent Getafe Stay
Mason Greenwood has found a new lease on life in La Liga with Getafe after joining the Spanish club on a season-long loan from Manchester United in the last transfer window. The loan move followed an announcement from United that Greenwood’s future would lie elsewhere, marking the end of his Old Trafford career after an 18-month absence from the first team. Greenwood’s separation from Manchester United came in the wake of a lengthy investigation into domestic abuse allegations, though all charges were eventually dropped. Following these events, both the player and club agreed that his career should continue away from Old Trafford, and he subsequently joined Getafe.
The 22-year-old has made an encouraging start in Spain, establishing himself as a regular in the side and recently netting his first goal since January 2022. Reports now suggest that Greenwood is enjoying his time at Getafe and could be open to a permanent move. According to The Sun, a source close to the situation revealed that Greenwood feared his career might be over but is now happy to have the chance to continue playing and is considering staying at Getafe beyond his current loan. With Greenwood reportedly “loving life” in Madrid, this could be the beginning of a long-term chapter for the forward as he looks to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.
