Højlund Named Among Golden Boy Award Finalists

Rasmus Højlund has been shortlisted as one of the 25 finalists for the highly esteemed Golden Boy award, which recognises the best young football talent in Europe. The Manchester United striker, who has impressed with his performances since joining the club, finds himself in the running alongside some of the most exciting young players on the continent. Højlund signed for Manchester United in August, arriving from Atalanta for an initial fee of £64 million, with potential add-ons that could increase the total to £72 million. His arrival at Old Trafford was met with high expectations, as fans eagerly anticipated the impact he would have on the squad. Although a back injury delayed his debut until September, the 20-year-old has quickly made his mark.

Despite his late start to the season, Højlund has already scored three goals in the Champions League, making him one of the competition’s joint-top scorers. His prolific form continues on the international stage, where he has netted six goals in Euro 2024 qualifying, putting him second in the scoring charts alongside teammate Scott McTominay. The Danish forward is up against fierce competition for the Golden Boy award, with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Jamal Musiala, Levi Colwill, and Evan Ferguson also vying for the prestigious title. The final list of contenders highlights the exceptional young talent emerging across Europe.

West Ham Could Renew Interest in Maguire

West Ham United may reignite their pursuit of Manchester United defender Harry Maguire if Kurt Zouma departs the club, according to reports from 90min. The Hammers previously had a £30 million bid accepted for Maguire during the summer transfer window, but the deal ultimately fell through. Kurt Zouma, who has been a key figure in David Moyes’ defence since joining from Chelsea in 2021, could be facing a decision on his future amid reported interest from the Saudi Pro League. With his contract at West Ham running until 2025, the London club may look to secure his long-term future, or alternatively, prepare for his departure by revisiting their interest in Maguire.

For his part, Maguire has acknowledged that his current situation at Manchester United cannot continue indefinitely. The England international has struggled for regular playing time under Erik ten Hag, having made just two starts this season—one in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup—and two additional appearances as a substitute. He has yet to feature in any Champions League matches this campaign. A move to West Ham would likely provide Maguire with a more prominent role and regular first-team football, something he has been lacking at Old Trafford. The switch could offer him the opportunity to re-establish himself as a key player in the Premier League.
