United to Delay Decision on Martial

Manchester United are reportedly planning to trigger contract extensions for Victor Lindelöf and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to ESPN. However, the club will wait before making a decision on Anthony Martial’s future. The Frenchman’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, but United hold a one-year extension option. Martial’s time at Old Trafford has been plagued by injuries, limiting his impact. Last season, he made just 11 Premier League starts. The forward was loaned to Sevilla in the 2021/22 campaign, where he scored only once in 12 appearances. Although Martial was expected to be United’s first-choice striker last season, his persistent fitness issues forced the club to sign Rasmus Højlund, who has since surpassed him in the pecking order. So far this season, Martial has featured nine times, scoring once and providing one assist. The coming months will likely determine whether United opt to keep or offload the 27-year-old.
