This week is a quieter one for Manchester United, as the team prepares for FA Cup quarter-final against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Champions League is back and it will be there on Wednesday as well, to remind all United fans of the great achievement from last week.
Still, we are here to talk about the latest news around Manchester United. Here they are.
Andreas Pereira’s Contract Extension
Manchester United have revealed Andreas Pereira’s contract extension has been triggered. The Brazilian’s contract was due to expire this summer, but the club opted for the option of another year. The clause was activated and now Pereira’s contract will run until June 2020.
This is good news for both the player and the club. Pereira thoroughly deserved this extension, as he started improving in recent months. Whenever he was given chance, the midfielder was growing in his performances and given his age, the best is yet to come from him.
Steven Bergwijn Transfer Talk
According to the Dutch media, Manchester United are interested in signing PSV Eindhoven’s winger Steven Bergwijn. De Telegraaf claim that the Red Devils have scouted the 21-year old since the end of the January transfer window and could be very interested in him.
Bergwijn scored 12 goals and made 13 assists in 32 appearances for PSV this season and a sum of £30m is being thrown around as the price United or any other club would have to pay for him. He is right winger, a position Man United were previously looking to improve, but it remains unknown how realistic it is for United to go for Bergwijn instead of some bigger name.
Alexis Sanchez Could Go On Loan
Alexis Sanchez is not enjoying his time in Manchester. Ever since joining from Arsenal in January 2018, the Chilean has had a tough time. There were just minor sparks when he looked a little bit like his old self and with another recent injury, the things became much clearer for all sides. To put it bluntly, Man United are pretty sure there is no place for Sanchez in this team for much longer.
However, as Sanchez is aging and is on a huge decline in terms of performances, his big wages could be a big problem in trying to sell him this summer. Man United would therefore be open to Alexis moving to another club on loan, while some offer from China could make things much more interesting.
Who Comes To Old Trafford In Champions League?
Manchester United are back in Champions League quarterfinals and this Tuesday we found out another two teams who are their potential rivals in the next round – Manchester City and Juventus. The big city rival and the team that played in the same group in Champions League this season came on top of Schalke and Atletico Madrid and now there only two more places left.
Man United could get drawn with these two clubs, as well as Tottenham, Ajax and Porto. The remaining places will be taken by either Liverpool or Bayern and Barcelona or Lyon. Who would be your wish for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side?
