It is not a secret that Manchester United have been linked with a plethora of defenders during the current transfer window. In fact, it feels as if talking about is almost like beaten on a dead horse. We already know The Red Devils want to bolster their depth at centre-back. We also know they have been linked with players such as Harry Maguire, Leonardo Bonucci and Toby Alderweireld, just to name a few.
The second new development – and perhaps the most important one – is the potential signing of Marquinhos. The PSG and Brazil centre-back could be on his way out of the Ligue 1 giants. And based on recent reports, Manchester United would appear as a possibility.
Marquinhos would represent an upgrade… if he accepts a move to England, of course
According to respected French outlet ParisUnited, United are keen to make an approach for Marquinhos. In fact, the Brazilian’s agent, Giuliano Bertolucci, met with United officials last week to seek whether the Premier League giants were keen on a deal. Even though the talented centre-back would prefer to remain in France, PSG could part ways with him. With Thiago Silva, Pascal Kimpembe and possibly another centre-back on the squad, Marquinhos might be too expensive for the little playing time he will have.
Marquinhos would certainly represent an upgrade over Manchester United’s current in-house alternatives for the centre-back position. He is a far better player than the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling. And to be fair, the Brazilian would make an intriguing pairing with Eric Bailly. Both are ball-playing centre-backs, but at the same time, can cover ground and mark with the best of them.
There are several details that would need to be settled before thinking about his potential arrival. First of all, Mourinho might as well part ways with one of the current centre-backs to make space for Marquinhos. United already have Jones, Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Bailly and Marcos Rojo. We are not even considering Axel Tuanzebe or Timothy Fosu-Mensah; both can also play in that position if needed.
Only time will tell whether United can make a move for the Brazil international or not. But at least on paper, it would be a smart signing. And he would be quite an upgrade for a defence that desperately needs one.
I think ManU should sign Marquinhos and Yerry Mina and sell Jones and Marcos Rojo that would be so ideal for us.
Man u should sell smalling and jones and not rojo and jones
Man u should sell smalling and jones, and sign maquinhos and maguire
I suspect Marquinhos has no intention of leaving PSG. He seems to be just using United to get a pay raise.
