In today’s Manchester United news Rio Ferdinand should be fit for Arsenal, Sir Alex thinks Wayne Rooney is close to top form, and more goals are needed from Anderson.
Rio Ferdinand will be fit to face Arsenal – Guardian
Following yesterday’s 1-1 draw there were some concerns over the fitness of Rio Ferdinand, but Sir Alex Ferguson believes he will be fit for Monday’s fixture against Arsenal. Ferdinand was replaced by Chris Smalling in the second half after complaints of a tight hamstring. With six days to recover, Ferdinand is expected to be involved when the Gunners visit Old Trafford. Smalling has been brilliant since joining the club this summer, but for this top-of-the-table clash I’d certainly feel more confident with Ferdinand alongside Nemanja Vidic at the back.
Ferguson: Rooney near top form – Telegraph
Sir Alex Ferguson believes Wayne Rooney is quickly approaching top form following yesterday’s match against Valencia. Rooney had a stunning effort which unfortunately ricocheted off the crossbar last night as he started to show glimpses of the player we loved last season. The 25-year-old has only scored twice this season, both times from the penalty spot and supporters are eagerly awaiting more goals. I hope the gaffer is right because Rooney’s goals would certainly be a huge boost as we enter a crucial part of the season.
Sir Alex wants more goals from Anderson – Daily Mirror
It was a moment many United fans had long been waiting for. Anderson scored his first Old Trafford goal yesterday against Valencia to secure a draw and top place in Group C. Now Sir Alex Ferguson wants to see more goals from the Brazilian. It was only Anderson’s second competitive goal in 109 matches for United. Supporters have often criticized the Brazilian’s lack of goals as he was believed to be an attacking midfielder when signed in 2007. Anderson had a strong first season for the club, but has since struggled with injury. The 22-year-old has finally gotten a run of games in the squad recently and has rewarded the manager for his faith with good performances against Blackburn and Valencia. Hopefully the goal against Valencia will provide Anderson with the confidence he needs to score more regularly.
