Real 'give up' on Ron

Ronaldo

REAL Madrid appear to have given up hope of signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Spanish giants have long made their interest in the Manchester United star known, but president Ramon Calderon indicated a move would have to be shelved.

Sir Alex Ferguson has repeatedly criticised Real for trying to unsettle his star man and is sure to take this latest development with a pinch of salt.

But publicly, at least, Real appear to have admitted defeat with Calderon saying: "Ronaldo belongs completely to the Mancunians.

"United have no intention of selling him at whatever price. We have to accept their decision."

Real were ready to make Ronaldo the most expensive player in the world, prepared to pay as much as £50m to take him to the Bernabau.

But with four years remaining on his five-year contract at Old Trafford, United hold the trump card with Ferguson adamant that he will not leave.
