Rooney - form due to the competition for places
Former United forward, Andy Ritchie, believes that Wayne Rooney has hit top form recently because of the increased competition at Old Trafford. Ritchie played for United between 1977 and 1980.
With the purchase of Dimitiar Berbatov from Tottenham at the start of September, United now have four world class forwards in their ranks. Rooney has been competing for a place with Carlos Tevez, Dimitiar Berbatov and Cristiano Ronaldo. Fergie attempted to play Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez and Dimitiar Berbatov - which resulted in a shocking 2-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool.
Rooney has been in good form for United scoring in his last three games and putting in a MOTM performance against Blackburn Rovers and Aalborg. Rooney also scored twice for England at Wembley on Saturday.
