Neville on Liverpool's title challenge

Gary Neville

Liverpool's "favourite" United footballer, Gary Neville, when asked about the possibility of Liverpool winning the Premier League commented 'I hope not'.

1995 was the last time that either United, Chelsea or Arsenal last won the league. Blackburn Rovers were victorious that May day after a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. However United failed to beat West Ham and could only draw with the East Londoners meaning that Blackburn were the league champions.

Neville was commented as saying when asked about the possibility of a Liverpool title win: "I hope not. But we don't know do we? They have started well and had some good results. They beat us, which was disappointing for us, but will obviously give them confidence. It will be Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and ourselves. We know the champions will be one of those four. It is a case of who puts the most consistent run together."

Neville was also speaking about United's current position in the league suggesting that United had already played Liverpool and Chelsea away from home, with Arsenal coming up on the 8th November, combined with the game in hand - due to the Fulham game being canceled - means that United aren't too far off their rivals suggested in the press. Neville has missed the last couple of games due to a groin injury.
