Ben Foster lifts the Carling Cup

Manchester United manager praised Ben Foster for making a superb first save to deny Spurs a penalty equalizer.

Foster, who has made six appearances so far this season for the Reds, was in superb form - making a number of saves throughout the match and stopping O'hara's penalty. Ferguson stated "Ben Foster made a fantastic first save which gave us a big lift, and our players took their penalties very confidently."

Fergie also went onto add where United's priorities lay and what he thought of extra-time: "The league's a priority and the Champions League as well. We could have done without extra time to be honest and I suppose Tottenham will be saying the same. There'll be some tired legs and I need them to freshen up". Fergie will be hoping that the likes of Ferdinand and Ronaldo won't be too tired for the trip North East to Newcastle on Wednesday.

Ryan Giggs also spoke about the clubs desire to keep on winning things "There's a long way to go in all the trophies. We've just got to keep the same desire, play as well as we have done. We've played better than we did today, but we won so that's what it's all about. It's a cup final so obviously we wanted to win it, and then kick on from there really. That's what we did with the Club World Cup, so hopefully we can show the same form after winning this". Giggs scored the opening penalty in the shootout.
