Rooney and Ronaldo escape punishment

Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo will not face punishment for incidents in the games against Aalborg and Tottenham respectively.
Rooney was singled out by the media on Wednesday morning for 3 incidents in the Champions League encounter with the focus on an alleged stamp. UEFA, however, have studied the evidence and have decided that no further action was required.
And Ronaldo, who was accused of kicking at Michael Dawson on Saturday, will not face action after the match referee Mike Dean watched the footage again and decided, just as he did at the time, that no further action was needed.
Sir Alex Ferguson held a stony silence with regards to the Rooney incident but was clearly incensed by the snowball media witchhunt - however, as United prepare for the World Club Championship in Tokyo, he will be pleased that sense has prevailed.
