Ronaldo set for Ballon D'or

Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to be named European Footballer of the year according to newspaper reports with Sir Alex Ferguson claiming that the winger is up there with Maradona, Cruyff and Pele.

Ronaldo had a superb 2007/08 season and scored 42 goals in a double winning season for Manchester United and has has continued his goal scoring into 2008/09 as he heads the United goal scoring chart.

Ronaldo, who was sent off in the Manchester derby yesterday, has had a hard couple of games recently and United fans will hope that, like last season, the forward will be in a rich goal scoring form for the new year. Ronaldo is thought to have fought off close competition from Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Fernando Torres of Liverpool.
