Manchester United draw Celtic in Group E

United win the Champions League

Holders of the European Cup, Manchester United, have been drawn alongside Scottish Champions Celtic in Group E of the Champions League group stages along with Spanish outfit Villarreal and Danish side Aalborg.

Manchester United drew Celtic two seasons ago at the same stage and beat them 3-2 at Old Trafford whilst losing at Celtic park, 1-0. Both clubs qualified through the groups stages to the last 16 of Europe's biggest club competition. However, both Celtic and Manchester United were knocked out by the eventual winners AC Milan. Manchester United reach the semi-final that season losing 5-3 on aggregate to the Milan club.

United will not have fond memories of their last group stage games against Villarreal in 2005 - when United failed to get out of the groups stages losing to Benfica in the final group game 2-1. Wayne Rooney was infamously sent off for his applauding of referee Kim Milton Nielsen following a decision going against him.

Our heart says yes but statistics say no - can United retain the European Cup?
