Match Report: Manchester United 3-0 Celtic
Dimitar Berbatov's dubious double set Manchester United on the way to their first home win in this season's Champions League.
It was a commanding display by the European Champions although their Glasweigan counterparts will have every right to feel aggrieved after United's £30m Bulgarian appeared to be offside when firing his brace - TV replays proved the offside to be marginal, if at all, though that will not appease visiting manager and ex-Red, Gordon Strachan.
The Red Devil in imperious form, Wayne Rooney, rounded off the win but may have had cause for Berbatovs contentious couple of strikes to have had some retribution given he was wrongly flagged off for offside when scoring in the game, in addition to his harshly disallowed strike at the weekend.
It was a largely comfortable win for United - Berbatov expertly flicked in the opener shortly before the break before tapping in the rebound from a Ronaldo free kick, while Rooney was the beneficiary of a great Tevez work to score the third from 20 yards, the home side were so impressive a score of 4 or 5 would not have flattered them.
Rooney in particular was instrumental, while Nani and Anderson were always buzzing with energy and Berbatov was playing with a smile and grace that befitted his incredible price tag. Tevez's impressive cameo gave cause for a belief of his return to the starting eleven, while the evenings "stand ins", Jonny Evans for Ferdinand, O'Shea for Evra, and Fletcher for any number of midfield choices, did nothing to harm their position as each performed with a maturity and excellence to match the occasion.
With 3 matchdays left in the group stages and United sitting nicely on 7 points, they will know that 3 points in either of their remaining away games will all but guarantee progression to the knock out stages.
