With the doom and gloom of the financial crisis and unethical ownership of Manchester United being the main talking points at the moment, its great to finally receive some good news – Wayne Rooney commits himself to Manchester United long term. There was talk that the Premier League top goal scorer would pack his bags and join Ronaldo in sunny Spain to help fund the Glazer debt, however Rooney has stated he ‘is a United player and is happy here’.

Carlos Tevez: Neville was wrong and United respect me

Carlos Tevez has spoken about the comments from Manchester United club captain Gary Neville towards him regarding his decision to leave Manchester United for Manchester City. On Tuesday the former United striker seemed to be more interested in winding up his old employers than celebrating with Manchester City fans after scoring a controversial penalty in the 2-1 victory over United and celebrated with a hand gesture, that was in reference to Neville’s comments . However, since the 1st leg the Argentinian has spoken about the criticism aimed at him by Neville regarding his departure to Eastlands.
Should Gary Neville be more understanding of financial crisis?

Gary Neville has distanced himself from the appalling financial figures that were released by Manchester United last week. The club captain believes that the debt has “nothing to do with him” and that the players never get involved in “the financial side of things”. Neville’s comments are in complete contrast to former United captain and iconic figure Eric Cantona who claimed “Glazer could pay me 100m Euros to be manager and I still wouldn’t go there”. Should Gary Neville have been a little more tactful with his comments? It is difficult to believe that recent financial figures at Old Trafford would not concern a senior player like Neville even slightly. Or is he right – the players should concentrate on playing football rather than getting involved in finances – of course contract disputes are completely different matter, right Gary?
Nemanja Vidic out injured for ten days

Manchester United’s Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic is set for a 10 day spell on the sidelines after tweaking a nerve in his leg before the embarrassing 1-0 defeat to Leeds United on Sunday. There are a number of reports suggesting that Vidic is looking for a transfer out of United, although his agent has stated that the defender is ‘happy’ at Old Trafford.
The decline of 3-5-2 in modern football

Although at the Stretty Rant we concentrate on issues involving United – we do like to engage in debates over other aspects of the beautiful game. I got a royal ROASTING in the ‘Ferguson criticism blog‘ the other week. Some justified, some total bullshit – but it got people talking about the tactics Ferguson adopted against Fulham. I for one would never promote a three man defense – although I do adhere to a 4-3-3 shifting to a 3-4-3 if you have the players when attacking. So what do you make of the decline of the 3-5-2? Or is the 3-5-2 alive and kicking as it was back in 1986 when Carlos Bilardo (pictured above) shocked the footballing world with the removal of two wingers?
