Report: United nearing £15m deal for De Gea

Posted on November 18, 2010  by KDill_MUFC  in KDill_MUFC, Man United, Press, Transfer Targets   4 Comments »

Both The Times and The Irish Independent are reporting that Manchester United are on the brink of agreeing a £15m deal to sign David De Gea. The 20-year-old Spanish shot stopper is currently with Atletico Madrid, but it seems he may now be on his was to Old Trafford with talks in advanced stages. Both reports seemed confident that the deal was all but done. At this time it is still unclear whether De Gea will join United in January or July should the deal be completed.

Ballack: Schweinsteiger would fit in at Manchester United

Posted on November 08, 2010  by Stretford-end  in Man United, Man United News, Players, Press, Quotes, Transfer Targets   2 Comments »

Schweinsteiger

Former Chelsea and Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Ballack, has stated that he believes fellow countryman Bastien Schweinsteiger could move to Manchester United or Real Madrid, describing the potential transfer as an ‘attractive offer’.

The versatile midfielder, who starred at this year’s World Cup Finals for Germany, is out of contract in the summer of 2012 and could be tempted to move abroad like Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil who moved to Real Madrid straight after the 2010 World Cup Finals. With Bayern concerned that Schweinsteiger could leave the club for nothing come 2012, United may be tempted by a knock down bid for the 83 cap man.

I am hoping to get back to posting consistently, but school keeps getting in the way. The major story in today’s news has Ole Gunnar Solskjaer linked with a move back to Molde as manager. In other news, Nani has been ruled out for the Manchester derby.

Not much in today’s news. Wayne Rooney is targeting a return in the Manchester derby and Piers Morgan signs off from The Daily Mail with a final insult to United.

I am happy to announce Stretty Stories is back from hiatus. With the Wayne Rooney saga dominating headlines in recent times, there has not been a lot of other news coming from Old Trafford. Instead of crunching all the Rooney updates into small Stretty Stories recaps, our writers instead gave it full-length posts. However, with things hopefully back to normal at the club, the Stretty Rant will get back to business as usual, particularly regular Stretty Stories posts. So without further ado, I give you today’s news…

We need to “Believe”… because the players do.

One of the most disappointing aspects of the Wayne Rooney contract saga – possibly the most – was that it came from a player we believed to love the club as much as any, as much as Cantona fell in love with the club too. It immediately forced supporters to think they couldn’t trust anyone in the team. If Rooney of all people could remove himself from emotional attachment to the club because of what he perceived to be lack of trophy prospects in the short term, then what of other players?

This time last week I blogged a storm was about to hit Old Trafford, and it did, with an unexpected conclusion.

Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes may be one (well, three) offs but the reaction from Old Trafford this week should have put minds at rest. Patrice Evra, Darren Fletcher and club captain Nemanja Vidic all spoke to the media, and while the headlines may have identified Rooney as the target of supposed annoyance, there was an encouraging sign of team spirit.

Rooney reveals reasons behind transfer desire

Posted on October 20, 2010  by KDill_MUFC  in KDill_MUFC, Man United, Players, Press   4 Comments »

Wayne Rooney confirmed his desire to leave Manchester United today. Speaking about his intention to leave, the striker said, “I met with David Gill last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad.” It was this revelation which led to him to decide against extending his contract.

Bring Becks back to number 10

Posted on October 20, 2010  by Yolkie  in Man United News, Players, Premier League, Press, Transfer Speculation   No Comments »

As supporters seek to re-group and rally around the team, Stretford-End.com takes an admittedly knee jerk look at the immediate aftermath of Wayne Rooney’s inevitable (even though at this stage, still potential) departure from Manchester United.

How do we replace him? Well, maybe he doesn’t need replacing at all. We do need some goodwill restoring to the club after a player who said he wanted to finish his career at the club has basically signalled his intention to leave for more money. It might not be the most popular choice, and it might not be the player we sold to Real Madrid that people immediately want to see return to Old Trafford, but I believe the solution – short term, at least – is to bring back David Beckham.
