Manchester United are on the brink of a historic nineteenth league title after beating Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford. Manchester United edged closer to Wembley with a comfortable 2-0 win over semi-final newcomers Schalke 04. Goals from Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney sealed an easy win for the three times European Cup winners, with Schalke 04 offering little in terms of an attacking threat. Bayern Munich bound Manuel Neuer was superb for ‘The Miners’, keeping United out in the first half with some exceptional saves. Javier Hernandez again showed why he is keeping Dimitar Berbatov out of the starting line up, whilst Michael Carrick waltzed around the midfield effortlessly, picking passing out at ease. For two hours at least, United have opened up a 9 point gap at the top of the Premier League and now know for certain that wins in the next two league games will seal a record breaking 19th title. Manchester United failed to score at St James’ park for the first time since the 1999/2000 season to pick up a point in a 0-0 draw.
