Neville celebrates Owen's winner
AUTHOR: – Doron

It’s a derby weekend. It’s United vs. City. It’s MASSIVE! Or is it? The game won’t decide the title but it could knock City pretty much out of the race. Bragging rights are though up for grabs and United will want to prove that Manchester is still very much red.

Tactics Preview: Manchester City Fullbacks & the early goal

Zabaleta sent off

AUTHORStretford-end

Giacinto Facchetti was a one club man. He played 476 times for Internazionale and scored 59 goals. In his eighteen year career he won two European Cups and was regarding as one of the finest attacking fullbacks of all time. Roberto Mancini was born in 1964 and went onto become a fine playmaker with Sampdoria.

The Manchester City manager would not have seen Facchetti in full flow for “La Grande Inter” in the 1960′s, which maybe if he had of done might have made Mancini a little more attack minded with his right and left back on their travels. Mourinho used to do it when his Chelsea side were two or three goals up, however should Mancini be a little more adventitious if his side wants to challenge for honours?

The Enigma of Michael Carrick

Michael Carrick

AUTHOR: – Bricki

Michael Carrick used to always be on the bench for England. Last night he wasn’t even in the squad. Its a position he seems to have been stuck in since the middle of last season. The question is what has happened to the player who was an integral cog in 3 championship winning teams and a team that reached consecutive Champions League Finals?

The introduction of Carrick into the United team from Spurs gave the midfield a more composed look and protection for the back four. This allowed Fletcher, Scholes and the newly signed Anderson to play further up the pitch and support Rooney and Ronaldo. After several quiet displays early on in his United career he excelled against Chelsea at Old Trafford, snuffing out attacks and giving more presence in Midfield.

Manchester City 0-0 Manchester United Match Report

Rafael head to head with Carlos Tevez
A highly anticipated build up for the Manchester derby was extinguished with a damp squib as City’s negative outlook denied United’s  – in terms of their restricted capabilities – impressive approach.

The score was goalless and while neither net was troubled to the extent that there would be a winner; and while United exited the derby with the ability to hold their heads high having extended their long unbeaten record with an attacking display, there will still be a lingering sense of dissatisfaction as this entirely credible result left them 2 points further behind champions Chelsea at the top of the table.

Manchester City vs. Manchester United Match Preview

This is easily my favourite match of the season. With our noisy neighbours talking more and more about surpassing us, there is no better way to put them in their place than winning at their home ground. A few years ago I may have said Liverpool was my most anticipated opponent, but things change. I would have to be a fool to say Manchester City hasn’t improved in recent seasons; they have. They’re not yet a title contender in my eyes, but they’re getting close and they’re certainly capable of qualifying for Champions League. There is no doubt that City is making strides forward, but when United travel to Eastlands on Wednesday it will be the perfect opportunity to remind the bitters who the top team in Manchester is.

Fancy a bet on Manchester City vs. Manchester United tonight?

Stretford-end.com takes a look at the dark side

Posted on July 24, 2010  by nameonthetrophy  in Arsenal, Chelsea, Citeh, Doron, Liverpool, Man United, Manchester City, Pre Season, Premier League, Spurs   1 Comment »

Michael Owen

As Manchester United fans our focus is firmly on our club. We don’t really spend much time worrying about other teams as we have a belief and confidence in our own side. However, that isn’t to say that from time to time we look around and see what everyone else is doing – it’s only natural to be intrigued. Therefore with three weeks to go until the start of the league season, and nearly a month into the transfer window I thought I’d share my brief thoughts on the competition.

Welcome to the very first installment of my daily media review!

Today’s big news is, of course, that Manchester United beat Celtic 3-1 in Toronto last night. Also in today’s news: Hargo needs more treatment, Vidic linked with Madrid, who his possible replacement is, Javier Mascherano lost his phone, and our noisy neighbors are in dire need of a dictionary.
