Sir Matt Busby

AUTHOR: – Mancunian Red

What right do I have to ask this or judge anyone which of course is a fair response. While I don’t think there is black and white answer to this question I do believe that people have the right to judge and there are certain criteria which defines a true fan from a glory hunter. I will try to explain my reasoning.

Many people believe the myth United became the biggest British club because of the Munich disaster. This is false United had become the best supported club after the war because of the great football we played. Prior to the war it could be argued we weren’t even the biggest club in Manchester. It was only after Busby and Murphy took over the club and put the emphasis on attack and style that United’s support started growing.

Manchester United debt and ownership explained

Glazers

AUTHOR: – Doron

It’s been nearly a week since Manchester United released their quarterly financial results. As always when there are figures released, fans ask questions – often these involve quite simply explanations about the debt and rumours in the press. It’s no secret that the club’s financial situation is very complicated and very secretive. To try and help answer some of the most common queries we’ve put eleven questions to Andy Green, a United fan who looks at football finance and governance.

NB this isn’t about being anti-Glazer or pro-Glazer (should such a thing exist) – just answers to simple questions about the club

Remembering the Busby Babes

Posted on February 06, 2011  by Stretford-end  in Guest Writer, Man United, Munich   8 Comments »

February 6th 1958 will forever be ingrained in the history of Manchester United football club. It was to be the day that claimed the lives of 23 people, including eight United players. In a tribute to the Busby Babes, I wanted to celebrate their playing careers rather than that the tragic events of that day. We’ve teamed up with Tony Parks, a United youth historian, who has kindly answered a few questions that we put to him in the week on the players, coaching and the potential of the Busby Babes. If you are a Twitter user, you can follow Tony here.

Dimitar Berbatov essential analysis: Berbaflop or Berbarotica?

Dimitar Berbatov

AUTHOR: – Nik (Guest Blogger)

“Lazy greasy Bulgarian”, “Berbaflop”, “moody and enigmatic” or perhaps “misunderstood genius”, “artist”, “languid”; just some of the phrases or words used to describe the 7-time Bulgarian player of the year, European player’s most popular player of the year (IFFHS, 2010), Premier League winner and Champions League runner-up since his arrival at Old Trafford.

In this piece I’ll attempt to deconstruct some of the myths that have surrounded the player who has now scored 40 goals in 86 league appearances and pose some hopefully interesting theories as to why he has indeed been misunderstood and received perhaps the harshest criticism a player has ever suffered at the club – certainly the harshest criticism directed at an ever-present member of the first eleven.

The Forgotten Man must move on so a new United era can start

Owen Hargreaves

As the transfer window draws towards a close, United have only made minor moves in brining in a new back-up goalkeeper. This summer is likely to bring a fair few changes to the squad personnel at the club. We’ve invited Herzog’s Child to share his thoughts on why this is a good time for the club to move on and welcome a new era; starting with the likely departure of Owen Hargreaves…

Manchester United in the 80s: My first United match

Norman Whiteside

Stretford-end.com is a website that offers a place where Reds can discuss current issues, transfer gossip, tactics and anything to do with Manchester United. In the four years that we have been running we have had some great contributors and excellent discussions. Below is a superb account from Daniel, a match going Red for over twenty five years, on his first United match back in 1986 against our next opponents in the FA Cup – Southampton. Ron Atkinson was still manager and Fergie was two months away from the United hotseat. I’m sure you’ll enjoy Dan’s superb account of his first United match and Manchester United in the 80s.

You can follow Daniel on Twitter here.

Football in Crisis

Anti Glazer Protests

Before we play today, down the East Lancs one way and down the M62 in the other direction are two clubs all United fans should look at and take note. What’s happened over the last few weeks in Liverpool shows no one is immune to financial pressures. Back in 2005 when the anti-glazer protests began and back in January 2010 when it kicked up again, shows fans of all types inside and outside of Old Trafford want the Glazers to move on. Its not just United with problems, many lower league sides have been struggling.
