Rangers 0 – 1 Manchester United

Rooney

A solitary penalty converted by Wayne Rooney on his first start since his injury was enough to give Manchester United a 1-0 at Ibrox. Rangers were once again set up to avoid defeat but the late breakthrough ensured that United qualify from Group C and now need only a point or a low scoring defeat in their final game home to Valencia to cement first place.

Starts for Rooney and Giggs in particular were welcome sights for United after periods on the sidelines. Smalling and Evans were given a rare chance to impress as Vidic and Ferdinand were rested and left back in Manchester. Rarer still, Evra was given a night off allowing Fabio the opportunity to showcase his talents.

Valencia

It’s two weeks to the day that United last played at Old Trafford in what was a nail biting and often unforeseeable win against Wolves. Today, Wigan are the visitors. They’ve not had much luck at Old Trafford recently managing just one goal in five Premier League matches, but things haven’t been straightforward for United so far this season…

The second episode of the Stretford-End.com team’s vodcast, featuring Yolkie, Kyle and Doron discussing the game at Aston Villa where Manchester United recovered in typical fashion from 2 goals down to equalise, and how that attitude has served them well in the past. Also, the team discuss Wayne Rooney’s impending return to the side and if he can walk straight back in, as well as the search for Ole Solskjaer’s successor and whether or not we support Ian Holloway in his crusade against a possible fine for fielding a weakened side.

Ryan Tunnicliffe

It’s particularly hard not to get carried away when reviewing or discussing a talented young footballer. For me, Ryan Tunnicliffe embodies everything I love about a tough-tackling midfielder and he’s at a club where we’ve had one of the best in the game, Roy Keane. It’s hard not to get carried away…

The Red Report: Edwin, Transfers, and Pippo

Posted on November 07, 2010  by nameonthetrophy  in Doron, Man United, The Red Report   No Comments »

Welcome to the fourth issue of The Red Report, the round table discussion of all things Manchester United by your favourite United blogs: The Busby WayStretford-EndBangalore To Old TraffordManUtd24, and Red Force Rising.

The club has been struck by illness and injury this past week, so two very satisfactory wins with squad players have left everyone in a good mood with City to come in a few days. The week has thrown up an opportunity to discuss a few interesting topics though. Edwin Van der Sar became the oldest foreign player to play in the Premier League when he turned 40; the full use of our squad has made us question it (in a positive way); and we discuss one of Europe’s great goalscorers.

Manchester United vs. Wolves Match Preview (PL)

Chicharito

This all seems a bit strange, didn’t we do this one just recently? Yep, Wolves are back at Old Trafford just 11 days after coming for the fourth round of the Carling Cup. This one is a league game that *shock horror* is at three o’clock on a Saturday – a welcome return to normality, hopefully as the result will be too.
