30 August 2010 | Stretty Stories

August 30, 2010

As the transfer window comes to a close, typically you would expect news and rumors surrounding United to increase, but it’s actually gone fairly quiet as we enter the final days. Sadly, it means the frequency of Stretty Stories will likely decrease as well. As the window shuts and rumors go quiet, the news will inevitably slow. You can always count on Stretty Stories to bring you all of the news as it happens though.

Today, I’d especially like to point you in the direction of Yolkie’s exclusive interview with David May. Meanwhile, the press heaps praise on Nani and United are linked with a late move for an Everton starlet.

After two days without Stretty Stories, I am back to bring you all of today’s United news and rumors. You’d think in the final week of the transfer window there would be rumors galore surrounding United, but it’s been surprisingly quiet. In today’s news the press is questioning Bebe’s ability, United is linked with Steven Defour once again, Rooney wants Scholes for England, Diouf is hoping to help United while on loan, and Michael Owen may play for Liverpool once more.

On the eve of United’s opening match of the Premier League season, there are some reports that Wayne Rooney may be unfit for the match against Newcastle. Also in tomorrow’s chip paper, Edwin van der Sar warns that United can no longer have so much reliance on the veterans and Sir Alex is linked with a move for another Portuguese player.

5 weeks ago, he was playing in the 3rd tier of Portuguese football, and he once represented Portgual in the homeless World Cup. Now he is set to play for the world’s most popular football club.

Manchester United monitoring Ozil & Benzema according to MEN

July 27, 2010

Karim Benzema

David Gill’s been talking again; saying Sir Alex Ferguson could yet dip into the transfer market before the August deadline if he so wishes. Manchester Evening News are interpreting it as one possible “world class” signing, but claim Fergie is monitoring the situations of both Mezut Ozil and Karim Benzema.

27.07.10 Stretty Stories

I’m back from Kansas City, which means I’m back to work on Stretty Stories. Today we have Sir Alex’s praising his scouts, Hargreaves facing exclusion from the squad, Defour possibly moving to United this summer, and a “snub” from a soon-to-be City player.

23.07.10 Stretty Stories

July 22, 2010

This has easily been the slowest day for Manchester United news since I started writing the Stretty Stories. The big news is United’s plans to offer Vidic a new deal in order to secure his Old Trafford future. Also in the news is Sir Alex’s rumored interest in Steven Defour and Welbeck being linked with a Sunderland loan.

Despite Sir Alex insisting he is happy with the squad, United continues to be linked with players. I’m curious to see how many of you think there is still some business to be done.

Surely Mesut Ozil is value for money Fergie?

July 20, 2010

Mesut Ozil

For the regular readers of the blog you will be well aware that I am a realist, rather than a fantasist who loses himself in endless transfer possibilities. When I was younger, maybe I thought “Could we sign a Roberto Baggio or a Marco Van Basten?” – which at the time was ludicrous, considering the attraction of Italy – however, with Manchester City signing David Silva and David Villa moving to Barcelona before the World Cup, surely there is potential to add to this already impressive squad so that United can challenge both domestically and on a European front?

17.7.10 Stretty Stories

July 17, 2010

Welcome to the very first installment of my daily media review!

Today’s big news is, of course, that Manchester United beat Celtic 3-1 in Toronto last night. Also in today’s news: Hargo needs more treatment, Vidic linked with Madrid, who his possible replacement is, Javier Mascherano lost his phone, and our noisy neighbors are in dire need of a dictionary.

Federico Macheda is not for sale says Sir Alex Ferguson

July 16, 2010

Federico Macheda

According to Federico Macheda’s agent, the Italian striker has been classified as “unsellable” by Sir Alex Ferguson. While his agent has continued to insist that Kiko would be staying at Old Trafford for the 2010/11 season, there has been some talk of a possible loan move. Having spoken with the gaffer, though, his agent’s story now has more credibility.
