Wayne Rooney can surpass 42 goal Cristiano Ronaldo

March 11, 2010

Wayne Rooney

There has been a lot of discussion over the past few weeks regarding the potential goal scoring return from Wayne Rooney this season in comparison to that of his former team mate, Cristiano Ronaldo’s return in 2007/08. We discussed the possibility of such an achievement a couple of weeks ago when Rooney surpassed the total goals scored by Cristiano Ronaldo last season. I’m going to put my neck out and say that in our remaining games (potentially 14) Wayne Rooney will score thirteen goals – taking his goal tally up to a whopping 43 for the season (including community shield goal).

Dimitar Berbatov, Antonia Valencia & Park show quality in final

February 28, 2010

Ji Sung Park

Manchester United retained the League Cup today having beaten Aston Villa 2-1 at Wembley today. Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney scored the crucial goals to give United their fourth League cup win, with our number ten getting lots of superlatives thrown in his direction. Wayne Rooney is without doubt the best player on the planet and our star player by a mile – however, United demonstrated their strength in depth today with superb performances from Dimitar Berbatov, Antonio Valencia and Ji-Sung Park as we enter the business end of the season.

Goodison defeat does not bode well for title aspirations

February 21, 2010

Duncan Ferguson

Manchester United’s defeat to Everton was only the third time in Premier League history Evertonian’s got one over us at Goodsion Park. The first defeat at Goodison in the Premier League was in February 1995, when a Daniel Amokachi gave the Toffees a 1-0 victory. They had to wait another ten years to taste victory against United, another header from an Everton legend – Duncan Ferguson – gave the home side a 1-0 victory, which helped in their push for a fourth place finish. On both occasions we lost the league to Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea respectively. In 1995 we were without our talisman Eric Cantona, whilst in 2005 we arguably had a team in transition – but what was our excuse yesterday?

Manchester United news on goal time

February 7, 2010

Sir Alex Ferguson

One thing we need to take advantage of over here at Stretford-end.com is the amount of statistics that we have at our disposal. After every game, Yolkie and I update our records so that you have the most up to date Manchester United statistics possible. As we are now in the final third of the season (or squeaky bum time – whatever you’d like to call it) I thought we’d run off some statistics regarding when we are at our most dangerous in terms of scoring.

Wayne Rooney has scored more goals than Ronaldo so far

Rooney and Ronaldo

People used to label Cristiano Ronaldo a genius, a phenomenon and our star player – however, I wonder what superlatives are left to throw Wayne Rooney’s way, considering our number ten has already scored more Premier League goals than our old number seven last season.  Rooney has notched up 21 goals, so far, this season where as Ronaldo scored eighteen goals in 32 appearances.  It could even be fair to say that Rooney could reach the feat set by Ronaldo in the 2007/08 season.

Best of the Noughties – goals and matches

December 29, 2009

European Cup Winners 2008

Six Premier Leagues, two League Cups, one FA Cup, a World Club Cup, a European Cup not to mention getting to four Cup Finals we didn’t win and the 3 Charity/Community Shields.

A decade in which we have seen three “different” United sides with two of those being the most successful in the clubs history, a decade which saw the rising stars of the 90′s consolidate their place in the clubs’ and football history as some of the best ever to play the game as well as a new crop of world beaters.

We Manchester United fans have been truly spoiled over the last generation, making a review of the last ten years something of a double edged sword. Too many fantastic moments to mention; and plenty of controversy to get your teeth stuck into.

As we pass the first decade of the new century, Stretford-End.com casts a fond eye over a golden period for the club and asks you to help pick winners from various categories.

In this blog we’ll concentrate on what we feel were the best games; if you feel we’ve missed one out, please feel free to add your suggestions.

How many United stars made debuts in make or breaks?

December 8, 2009

outcasts

It’s rarely the case for a blog to be prompted so rapidly in the wake of a comment on another, but “The reds” raised an interesting poser ahead of tonight’s Champions League game in Germany – what kind of scenarios where some of the clubs greatest players thrown into for their debut match and is there any link between the direness of the situation and the ability of the player?

Stretford-End.com launched a mini investigation.

All doom and Gloom in Wolfsburg…..Apparently!!

December 7, 2009

Edin Dzeko

An injury hit Manchester United travel to northern Germany tomorrow night aiming to clinch top spot over their German rivals – even though some reds are worried about United finished second in the group. Ferguson has a task to get out one natural defender, let alone four at the back. There is talk of Michael Carrick deputising at centre half again (which I have no doubt he will do), talk of the chief executive son getting a run out and Fergie opting for three at the back. I remind any Red, who is disgusted by the situation we find ourselves in, of 1996 when we had to rely on Juventus beating Fenerbahçe on the final day of the group stages! What I would have given to have qualified two matches before!

What has happened to Nemanja Vidic?

October 25, 2009

Nemanja Vidic

Ok I admit it – there are a few things i’m scared of. Spiders are one, being caught wearing a trilby hat and ghost pets – however I think we can fairly conclude that the sight of Fernando Torres puts our no-nonsense, swashbuckling centre half turn into a nervous wreck. Nemanja Vidic was sent off for the third consecutive match against Liverpool today in the 2-0 defeat at Anfield. Looking back at last year’s fixture at home – our Serbia defender was all on course for a whole host of awards following an impressive season – which included a last minute goal against Sunderland and being part of a 14 match record breaking match run in which United didn’t concede a goal. However, after the Torres goal in which Vidic totally misjudged the flight of the ball – I ask – what has happened to Vidic?

IRREFUTABLE proof – Rooney is better than Torres. By a scouser.

October 2, 2009

Rooney

Through the glory of weblinks I discovered apparent “revealed proof” that Fernando Torres is better than Wayne Rooney.  Indeed, the writer excitedly states it’s “irrefutable”.

Jeebus, I thought, has the writer of this blog discovered something that is tangible and definitive enough to finally dispel the purpose of opinion?? And if he has, what is he doing wasting it on a comparison about football players??
